About the role

The Operations Manager (OM) reports directly to the General Manager and is responsible for supporting the overall performance at their assigned branch or office location to ensure operations are conducted in a safe, compliant, and efficient manner consistent with GrayMar’s established objectives, policies, and procedures. This role provides support with personnel, sales growth, customer satisfaction, budget requirements, and other related duties to ensure operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction to the Field Office’s teams and model GrayMar values.
  • Ensure each employee is prepared and educated in safe work practices.
  • Develop, coach, train, and promote employees; provide ongoing feedback and motivation, including performance goals.
  • Identify, strategize, and execute new and existing customer opportunities to support branch revenue.
  • Manage projects in environmental remediation, industrial services, emergency response, and hazardous materials transportation and disposal.
  • Coordinate employees, resources, dispatch, schedule, and manage multiple current projects, new projects, and emergency responses.
  • Develop scope of work, cost estimates, quotes, proposals, project health and safety analysis, and facilitate cross-functional communication with internal/external customers and vendors.
  • Lead day-to-day activities of assigned projects including customer communication, quality control, project schedule, work plan, cost tracking, and changes in scope of work.
  • Support, develop, and maintain a safety-centric work environment; perform field safety audits and ensure all employee training is current.
  • Complete and support required project documentation and employee timesheets accurately and on time.
  • Assist General Manager with managing employee timecards daily and ensure payroll is submitted accurately and on time.
  • Support waste management responsibilities including profile requests, manifesting, placarding, labeling, recordkeeping, waste inspections, branch bulking, consolidation, re-packaging, and scheduling.
  • Manage operational efficiencies, branch vehicle and fleet equipment, branch inventory, and develop Best Practice Guidance documents.
  • Assist General Manager with financials including invoice reconciliation, project profit and loss analysis, accounts payable/receivable, cost savings initiatives, and data collection for financial reports.
  • Support General Manager with supervision; lead, motivate, and support a large team of Project Managers, Supervisors, Drivers, and Technicians to drive employee retention and ensure adequate staffing.
  • Work with Human Resources on career development plans, problem resolution, corrective actions, leadership training, and employee engagement.
  • Ensure companywide compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Support and perform general maintenance, repairs, and inventory tasks as needed.
  • Respond to emergencies as needed, 24/7, including holidays, nights, and weekends.
  • Travel for emergency responses and scheduled work.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Strong work ethic with a safety-first mindset.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team while managing multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Thorough understanding of OSHA, DOT, and RCRA regulations.
  • Comprehensive knowledge in HAZWOPER and the Environmental industry, specific to environmental remediation, industrial services, emergency response, and hazardous materials transportation and disposal.
  • Excellent leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to oversee assigned projects and delegate responsibilities to complete jobs safely, compliantly, and efficiently.
  • Thorough attention to detail and excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • 10+ years of driving experience with a current and clean driving record.

Qualifications

  • A.S./A.A. degree or equivalent training and certifications in HAZWOPER/Environmental industry.
  • 8+ years of HAZWOPER/Environmental supervisor and project management experience; or 5+ years of HAZWOPER/Environmental experience with 3+ years of supervisor and project management experience in a comparable industry.
