Responsibilities
- Develop methods and procedures for efficient and economical routing and movement of customers' freight within budget guidelines.
- Utilize T.E.A.M. System for P&D and Dock Operations, and trailer utilization report to maximize resource capabilities.
- Prepare and compile daily, weekly, monthly production and service records and measure conformance to service center objectives.
- Inspect and measure proficiencies in service center personnel to determine necessary changes in work practices and procedures.
- Review logs and reports, confer with shift supervisory personnel for scheduling, production, and administrative support function requirements.
- Maintain superior internal and external customer relations, consistent with company policies.
- Assist in the recruitment of prospective subordinate employees, including screening, qualifying, and interviewing.
- Inspect Service Center facilities for conformance to prescribed safety and cleanliness standards.
- Inspect service center for security, such as locking bay doors, tractors, and keys.
- Initiate requisitions for routine maintenance/repairs and coordinate with service center manager.
- Coordinate line haul schedules with Line Coordinator to ensure consistent on-time service performance.
- Confer with various departments to ensure coordination of service center activities, including line haul, sales, maintenance, and claims.
- Issue directives to subordinates to coordinate the movement of expedited, late, or special circumstance freight.
- Investigate job-related accidents and injuries, ensuring timely and accurate report preparation and corresponding corrective actions.
- Participate in Controlled Substance Testing Program, meeting Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations for Pre-Employment, Random Reasonable Cause, and Post Accident Testing.
- Prepare and conduct regular service center meetings to inform supervisory, staff, and production/service personnel about service center performance, company trends, sales/marketing plans, and individual accomplishments and performances.
- Facilitate Company and service center sponsored TQM Continuous Improvement Process, supporting the corporate commitment to quality and excellence.
- Handle special assignments as directed.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of the LTL/Transportation Industry
- Managed Drivers and Dockworkers
- Understanding of the surrounding geographical area to the Service Center
Physical Demands
This position requires the ability to perform a combination of administrative and operational duties in an office and dock environment. Duties may include standing and walking for extended periods, pushing or pulling equipment, operating material-handling equipment, and occasionally assisting with physical dock tasks such as handling freight and related materials.
