Operations Manager

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to join our Insourcing Solutions team, located in Boston, MA within the Charles River Accelerator & Development Labs (CRADL) animal facilities. In this role, you will oversee and manage all aspects of the CRADL facilities, staff, and partner with senior management to achieve short- and long-term goals for the CRADL organization.

Responsibilities

• Manage and ensure daily husbandry and support assignments meet organizational standards and client expectations.
• Oversee personnel management activities including mentorship, training and development, performance feedback, disciplinary actions, and annual performance and salary reviews.
• Coordinate with Human Resources to conduct interviews, assist in recruitment, investigate personnel problems, and respond to employees in accordance with company policies.
• Communicate with clients, participate in recurring client meetings, and support key clients by presenting site capabilities or providing tours as needed.
• Provide support to technicians in the absence of the supervisor for various tasks.
• Assist with organizational goal setting and monitor high-level project deliverables.
• Lead and participate in all AAALAC accreditation activities, ensuring site, client, and employee readiness.
• Oversee site capital and expense budgets, and assist management with site forecasting, budget planning, and financial impact of client plans.
• Manage lists of site and equipment needs/improvements for all CRADL sites to assist in budget management.
• Collaborate with internal and external veterinarians on monitoring animal welfare trends and ensuring standards of welfare excellence.
• Ensure the site utilizes digital tools and reviews data generated for client invoices.
• Oversee facility maintenance/repairs and preventative maintenance schedules.
• Respond or direct after-hours emergencies/requests to ensure smooth facility operations and client satisfaction.
• Generate and submit internal operational reports in required formats and timeframes to ensure compliance and business performance.
• Participate in the development and implementation of organizational and site-specific standard operating procedures (SOPs) in compliance with all state, federal, and industry requirements.
• Work with other CRADL site peers to troubleshoot operational efforts and provide innovative solutions to enhance operations.
• Partner with the veterinary science team to ensure compliance with biosecurity policies, IACUC required training, and address IACUC non-compliance or animal welfare concerns.
• Lead and participate in all IACUC semi-annual activities, including follow-up actions for the site and organization.
• Lead all internal and client audit activities for the site and organization.
• Act as a subject matter expert in all animal facility operations.
• Conduct and participate in "Train the Trainer" sessions.
• Ensure required training for clients is completed to operate in compliance with local regulations and CRL policies.
• Oversee consistent practice of site and personnel safety policies and manage hazardous work in partnership with EH&S specialists.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in animal or laboratory science, business, or related discipline.
• Minimum eight (8) years in a laboratory animal facility, of which five (5) years is management or supervisory experience.
• AALAS certification at the Laboratory Animal Technologist level (LATG) and/or Certified Manager of Animal Resources (CMAR) preferred.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $110k to $120k USD annually. Salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
