About the role
The Menzies Aviation Baggage Operations Manager oversees the Baggage Operation, T-Point Connection Operation, and Inbound Baggage running at Menzies Aviation. Responsibilities include ensuring safety, managing budgets, implementing policies, and maintaining client relations.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the safe and secure operations, in accordance with the highest possible standards of health, safety, security, and all government statutory requirements.
- Monitor and progress in KPIs like MBR (missed baggage ratio) indicators as well as inbound baggage times to carousels.
- Work together with all department managers to ensure all baggage room areas are covered (including BSO follow up).
- Lead and manage an operational team to deliver excellent and safe performance in the ramp and interline service functions at a high-volume international airport.
- Implement Menzies Aviation Policies and Procedures as laid down in the Eight Pillars of Management.
- Ensure service delivery to customer airlines is according to the airline contracts, and within the agreed budget level.
- Supervise lead agents; allocate bag room agents as needed.
- Manage staff of 60+ employees.
- Support Health & Safety Committee.
- Act as the station designated planner.
- Suggest, elaborate, and document LSOPs when considered necessary.
- Ensure safety and security procedures are performed according to the Menzies Health & Safety regulations, and according to international aviation standards.
- Monitor performance, taking action to correct any shortfalls.
- Liaise with airline station managers, airport operations staff, handling agents, customs, immigration, and security officials, and other airport stakeholders.
- Provide reports as required, and service delivery measurements.
- Provide leadership to the operations team, developing their skills.
- Work shifts as required by the business.
- Report any significant deficiencies in products, materials, and documents.
- Suggest any improvements to working practices especially those relating to safety and security.
Requirements
- Ground Handling experience at a high-volume international airport.
- Previous airport leadership experience required.
- Financial management skills awareness.
- Able to communicate effectively with senior level personnel.
- Conversant with international airline ramp handling procedures, international aviation safety and security procedures, and Menzies ramp, safety, and security procedures.
- Able to work with a multinational workforce, and to adjust to the local conditions of the station.
- Excellent knowledge of ramp GSE.
- A working knowledge of the IATA Standard Ground Handling Agreement.
- Aptitude to develop the supervisory team, provide succession planning, and re-engineer business processes as demanded by changes in the business.
- Able to support other stations as required and ensure own station responsibilities are covered when on.
- Must be able to lift at least 70 pounds on a continuous basis.
- Must be able to pass a ten-year background check as required by US Customs.
- Must pass a drug test.
- Must have current driver’s license with no violations over the past 5 years.
