Operations Intern PV

About the role

The Operations Intern is a temporary role providing broad work experience in performing a variety of Nuclear Power Plant Operations tasks of limited scope and complexity. The intern receives training and rotates with rotating crews to better understand the Operations department and the Auxiliary Operator role. In addition, they will participate in one outage during the Internship and support site activities. Under the guidance of supervision and their assigned mentors, interns will develop job skills and will learn about the duties and responsibilities of various Operations tasks to help them make career decisions. The Palo Verde Operations Intern Program is a seven-month program and can promote in the Operations pipeline to Auxiliary Operator Trainee upon successful completion of written evaluations and management approval.

Responsibilities

• Completes Palo Verde Systems Overview course, designated Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) courses and associated exams.
• Completes selected site qualifications, a final interview and practical exam.
• Embraces the Palo Verde safety culture, including:
  • Using Prevent Events tools

Requirements

• High School graduate or GED.
• At least 18 years of age.
• Current Arizona resident.
• Must be able to satisfy applicable NRC, security, physical and psychological requirements to work within the protected area.
• Successful completion of POSS test.
• Any PVNGS employee may be called upon to serve as a member of the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) and will be expected to fulfill their obligation as an ERO member.
• Any PVNGS employee may be called upon to support a refueling or short-notice outage. This includes line roles and responsibilities as necessary to execute outage activities. These are conditions of employment at PVNGS.
• Must be a U.S. person (U.S. Citizen, U.S. Lawful Permanent Resident, Political Asylee, or Refugee) due to access to information subject to U.S. Export Control Laws.
• This position requires work to be performed in the field and/or at the work site, due to the nature of work.
• Any PVGS employee may be called upon for random Fitness For Duty Testing (FFD) during scheduled working hours.

Preferred Qualifications

• Trade/Tech School with emphasis on Energy & Engineering Technologies
• Bachelor’s Degree in physical science or medical field
• Associates Degree in Energy and Engineering Systems/Technologies
• Palo Verde experience (>3yrs)
• Hands on mechanical or electrical experience (>1yr)
• Leadership experience

Skills

• Basic math and high school algebra skills
• Good communications and interpersonal skills
