Position-Related Responsibilities
- Perform operations on plant equipment and auxiliaries as directed, such as starting, stopping and clearing equipment during normal operations, emergencies and for repairs.
- Prepare maintenance requests for equipment needing repair.
- Prepare reports, logs and time sheets and perform general housekeeping duties.
- Participate in on- or off-the-job training as required.
- Respond to plant emergencies, which may include call outs and over time as needed to support plant operations.
- Work both rotating and standard shifts, as required, with periodic shift changes.
- Ensure compliance with the Environmental Compliance Program and take reasonable precautions to prevent incidents of noncompliance.
- Perform routine chemical readings and tests.
- Perform preventive maintenance duties on all major equipment and systems as well as emergency backup systems.
- Administer and maintain plant operating manuals, technical references, prints and diagrams and preventive/predictive maintenance records.
- Forecast, inventory, and reorder spare parts to maintain plant reliability.
- Assist in periodic physical inventories in conjunction with UES warehouse personnel and standards.
- Inspect, repair, install and remove all types of pumps, compressors, valves, filters, nozzles etc. associated with power plant equipment and auxiliaries.
- Inspect, repair, install and remove all types of motors, generators, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, electrical signal and communication systems, and storage batteries, and work with electrical systems up to and including 15,000 volts.
- Utilize, troubleshoot and analyze DCS, PLC, and HMI turbine control equipment.
- Perform all other duties and responsibilities assigned by the immediate supervisor to this position, but not specifically stated in this description.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Working on feet for extensive periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing.
- Routinely lifting 75 pounds.
- Wear protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection and high voltage protective equipment.
- Work safely with hazardous materials.
- Capable of climbing stairs and ladders and capable of physically demanding work at heights and possibly in adverse conditions during operations and when participating in fire/emergency activities.
- Capable of entering and working in a confined space.
- Pass a respirator pulmonary function physical and respirator fit test.
- Extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work as required by schedules, work load, weather, power demand and plant conditions.
- Operational, maintenance and/or emergency functions may be in a safety sensitive role during the course of the calendar year.
- May receive and act upon product release calls.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Graduation from an accredited Instrument Technical Program or an approved and accredited apprenticeship program and two (2) years work experience as a technician in a related industry is desirable.
- Four (4) years of experience as a technician with increasing responsibility in a related industry may be substituted for the above.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well with others and be self-directed, as well as apply creative solutions to unique I & E problems is desirable.
- Skill in the use of hand and power driven tools.
- Strong personal computer skills including the MS Office Suite i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and some familiarity with AutoCAD.
- Experience in working with voltages up to 15,000 volts highly desirable.
- Prefer LM 6000 gas turbine experience.
- Previous power plant experience as a plant operator is highly preferred.
- Current Arizona driver’s license in good standing.
