Operations Engineer (Starship)

Responsibilities

• Design and own factory and production area layouts following the rules of clear visual indicators and linear flow principles
• Carry out job walks with vendors, negotiate prices, and hold vendors to schedule
• Host process walks of production lines, and ask questions to delete or simplify process steps and kick off changes
• Collaborate with teams to develop and manage production strategies to reduce future production risks and capitalize on emerging opportunities to enhance quality, output, safety, and cost
• Create tools to analyze delivery, capacity, and cost issues for production to inform decision-making
• Identify operational challenges within the organization, determine root causes, and devise appropriate solutions
• Develop and maintain key performance metrics, and pinpoint decision points and actions to optimize production to meet demand
• Actively pursue system and process improvements across and between production units

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
• 1+ years of professional or internship experience in a manufacturing environment

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Experience with process engineering including project management, capacity modeling, processing mapping, and layouts
• Experience with inventory, production, and capacity planning (including MRP/ERP systems)
• Proficiency with Excel, SQL, or Python/R for analysis on modeling dynamic systems
• Experience with statistics, data analysis, cost/benefit analysis, and visualization
• Experience as an industrial, operations, process, or manufacturing engineer in a developmental manufacturing environment
• Experience with lean, six sigma, and related production principles
• Experience contributing to multi-disciplinary and cross-functional teams

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed to meet major milestones
• Hands-on position requiring standing for long durations of the day and direct interaction with team members and hardware on the floor
• Eligibility to travel up to 10% of the work week to other sites
• Passability of Air Force background checks for Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg
• Based in Hawthorne, CA with onsite requirements
