About the role

As an Operations Engineer at Amazon, you will lead and manage the lifecycle of challenging cross-functional projects, developing and delivering the next generation of sortation and distribution solutions. You will play an integral part in planning and implementing facility network infrastructure, including new builds, retrofits, expansions, and program initiatives. Partnering with internal and external stakeholders, you will ensure timely handover and drive projects to meet schedule, budgetary, safety, and quality targets.

Responsibilities

• Work independently with internal and external teams to manage the lifecycle of challenging projects, acting as the owner to deliver on project objectives and targets.
• Actively participate in engineering reviews, impacting proposed solutions on system components, architecture, and facility processes.
• Partner with internal teams, stakeholders, and external vendors to set project priorities, establish milestones, and drive schedules to meet deadlines.
• Proactively assess stakeholders’ dependencies and milestones, problem-solve, and drive solutions to mitigate issues.
• Lead and coordinate execution efforts to deliver systems and automated equipment designs per established standards and guidelines.
• Perform equipment/systems installation, throughput, and safety qualifications.
• Simplify, optimize, and remove bottlenecks while resolving difficult system problems or technical deficiencies.
• Lead effective meetings by setting objectives, driving discussions, and ensuring alignment on expectations with internal and external teams.
• Document meeting discussions, decisions, and future steps to ensure accountability and follow-through.
• Promptly and accurately communicate project status, risk analysis, and mitigation plans.
• Articulate system and equipment designs, including layouts, technical specifications, and functional capabilities, to internal customers and partner teams.
• Manage change order controls, purchase orders, and invoice validation/approvals.
• Build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders across multiple projects.
• Identify and lead process improvement initiatives to enhance engineering and cross-team efficiencies.
• Generate high-quality, cost-effective solutions in compressed timeframes through collaboration.

A day in the life

You will manage the quality of implementation across multiple projects of varying scope, complexity, and duration. Daily tasks may include:

• Site coordination with operations teams and contractors on project execution or changes.
• Deep diving into project progress, schedules, and resources to identify barriers and drive resolutions.
• Facilitating planning and implementation meetings with stakeholders to ensure alignment on objectives and next steps.
• Capturing and publishing detailed meeting notes to drive ownership and follow-through.
• Reviewing and approving audit mechanisms and documentation.
• Tracking programmatic installation opportunities with internal automation teams.
• Brainstorming and developing workaround solutions to mitigate project delays or design issues.
• Performing systems installation quality, safety, throughput, and performance qualifications.
• Communicating progress to internal and external stakeholders.
• Supporting and training other engineering team members using Amazon’s safety, mechanical, electrical, and controls installation standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Experience in engineering, including a supervisory role managing people.
• Experience in a fast-paced, automated, industrial, logistics, production, or manufacturing environment.
• 3+ years of professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with automated equipment, including packaging machinery, sortation, and conveyor systems.
• Experience in preventative maintenance systems.

Travel

Up to 80% domestic travel, which may include up to three weeks in a row, including weekends. Travel intensity can vary.

Pay

The base salary range for this position is:

• USA, AZ, Tempe: $91,800.00 - $137,700.00 USD annually
• USA, CO, Denver: $91,800.00 - $137,700.00 USD annually
• USA, GA, Atlanta: $91,800.00 - $137,700.00 USD annually
• USA, IL, Chicago: $91,800.00 - $137,700.00 USD annually
• USA, MN, Minneapolis: $91,800.00 - $137,700.00 USD annually
• USA, TX, Irving: $91,800.00 - $137,700.00 USD annually
• USA, VA, Arlington: $91,800.00 - $137,700.00 USD annually
• USA, WA, Bellevue: $91,800.00 - $137,700.00 USD annually

Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
