Operations Campus Manager
About the role
As Campus Operations Manager — Meitner Energy Center on Intersect's Operations team, you'll hold the premier asset leadership role on-site in Pampa, Texas, serving as the single point of accountability for the safety, performance, and long-term reliability of our flagship multi-technology generation campus powering co-located Google data center infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Lead Campus Strategy and Multi-Technology Orchestration
- Provide overarching operational leadership across co-located solar PV, wind, BESS, and fast-start reciprocating gas assets, aligning technology-specific targets into a unified campus strategy.
- Manage, mentor, and evaluate the Wind, Solar, BESS, Gas, and High Voltage / Substation Site Managers, establishing standardized governance, work practices, and reporting cadences across all disciplines.
- Optimize campus-wide Capex and Opex through shared logistics, collective spare parts management, cross-utilization of labor and tooling, and disciplined financial workflows in Stampli and SideTracker.
- Command High-Voltage Infrastructure, Interconnection, and Microgrid Readiness
- Oversee safe, continuous operation of the 345kV/34.5kV breaker-and-a-half switching station and 35kV collector pathways, owning switching, clearance, and outage coordination across generation and behind-the-meter load.
- Maintain continuous readiness of the 300 MW BESS and 300 MW reciprocating gas microgrid for islanded operation, overseeing grid-forming inverter controls, black start capability, transition/resynchronization procedures, and periodic verification testing.
- Serve as the primary on-site interface with the Transmission Service Provider, balancing authority, and ERCOT scheduling coordinators while enforcing flawless NERC CIP and ERCOT reliability standard compliance.
- Drive Cross-Technology Performance, Dispatch, and Commissioning Handoff
- Partner with Origination and Trading and the Operations Control Center to optimize real-time dispatch across variable clean energy, BESS state of charge, and fast-start gas to meet rigid power factor, market, and behind-the-meter data center commitments.
- Direct preventative maintenance programs engineered for Texas Panhandle environmental extremes—including -40°F to 110°F diurnal temperature swings, dust mitigation, and high-lightning/surge exposure—while leading root cause analysis with Technical Services.
- Lead construction-to-operations handoff across all technologies, including commissioning validation, punch list closure, staffing execution, and executive briefings synthesized via SCADA/EMS, G Suite, Lucidchart, Claude, and Gemini.
- Champion Safety, Regulatory Compliance, and Community Stewardship
- Enforce a zero-harm safety culture under OSHA Title 29 protocols, standardizing LOTO, high-voltage switching, arc flash procedures, and incident command across battery thermal, gas, wind rescue, and severe weather hazard profiles.
- Manage local regulatory and community obligations in Gray County, including Chapter 312 tax abatement compliance, wildlife mitigation plans, and county road agreements.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Clean Energy Management, or an equivalent technical military or field leadership background.
- 10–12+ years of experience in utility-scale power generation operations, including at least 5+ years managing complex, multi-technology clean energy sites, hybrid power plants, or heavy industrial campuses.
- Proven track record of managing other managers and leading multi-disciplinary, internalized maintenance teams in high-consequence, 24/7 operational environments.
- Deep operational familiarity with medium voltage (35kV) collector systems and high voltage (345kV) substation architecture (breaker-and-a-half configuration strongly preferred), paired with hands-on expertise in at least two core site technologies: solar PV, wind generation, BESS, or reciprocating gas generation.
- Hands-on knowledge of microgrid and islanded operations, including grid-forming inverter controls, black start, and seamless load transfer serving critical behind-the-meter data center or industrial load.
- Robust working knowledge of ERCOT market protocols, ERCOT reliability standards, NERC CIP compliance, OSHA Title 29 protocols, and local frameworks such as Chapter 312 tax abatement compliance.
- Proficiency with SCADA/EMS platforms, SideTracker, Stampli, G Suite, Lucidchart, and generative AI tools (Claude, Gemini) to synthesize complex operational and financial data into executive-ready briefings.
- Commitment to working full-time on-site in Pampa / Gray County, TX (with up to 20% travel), leading with composure through active construction/commissioning boundaries and Texas Panhandle weather extremes.
- A strategic, people-first leadership style grounded in safety, accountability, and operational rigor, aligned with Intersect's core values of Equity, Humility, Authenticity, Long-run Value, and People Come First.
