About the role

This position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of all power plant equipment and assist with maintenance tasks assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the powerhouse assets are operated in a safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible manner
  • Participate in company safety programs and policies to promote a safe and healthy work environment
  • Perform inspections, water analysis, and troubleshooting to optimize plant performance
  • Monitor operating parameters and record operating data, including production efficiencies, electrical usage, pressures, temperatures, vibration indications, alarms, and other pertinent information related to the safe operation of the power plant equipment
  • Promptly notify the Plant Manager/Assistant Plant Manager of any unusual, abnormal, or potentially unsafe operating conditions and take appropriate action to mitigate any potentially unsafe condition or condition that, if not corrected, could result in out-of-specification system production
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled plant maintenance to optimize plant availability and improve cost-effectiveness
  • Operate and perform routine maintenance on water treatment equipment, including monitoring water quality and maintaining water treatment systems
  • De-energize (lock-out/tag-out) all equipment within the scope of responsibility to allow safe performance of maintenance
  • Perform routine (planned maintenance) on all power plant equipment, including predictive, preventive, and minor corrective maintenance
  • Assist contractors with work beyond the capability of the Operations & Maintenance Tech, such as gas turbine and steam turbine maintenance
  • Record and document all maintenance activities using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to track information and historical data
  • Troubleshoot and correct problems related to the proper monitoring, control, and operation of power plant equipment
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area, ensuring it is left unobstructed and safe following maintenance or repair tasks
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • Four years’ experience in power plant operations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical training and demonstrated ability to perform successfully in similar work environments

Other Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English and perform basic mathematical calculations
  • Works (8-hour) days Monday-Friday unless needed for (12-hour) operator shift coverage
  • Must be available for call-outs, scheduled overtime, weekend, and holiday work

  • Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Routinely work at heights and wear fall protection equipment
  • Wear respiratory protective or escape/rescue equipment, electrical protective equipment to prevent Arc Flash hazards, hearing protection, and other PPE as required
  • Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, including wet, humid, extreme heat, and cold
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and vibration
  • Frequently exposed to mechanical and electrical hazards
  • Moderate to loud noise levels in the work environment
