About the role
Sylvamo is seeking motivated, technically-minded individuals to join our Utilities Team at the Eastover Mill in Eastover, South Carolina. This is more than an operator position. It is an opportunity to become part of a highly skilled team responsible for safely operating and optimizing a complex utility system that powers an entire manufacturing facility. Our Utilities team operates high-pressure boilers, turbines, water treatment systems, wastewater treatment processes, fuel handling systems, and advanced distributed control systems (DCS). We are looking for individuals who enjoy solving problems, learning complex systems, and taking ownership of critical operations. Whether you have experience in power generation, industrial operations, military service, chemical processing, emergency response, or another technical field, we want to hear from you.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and operate complex utility systems from both the field and control room
- Analyze process data and respond to changing operating conditions
- Troubleshoot equipment and process issues
- Work closely with maintenance, engineering, and operations teams
- Participate in emergency response activities
- Contribute to a High Performance Team culture built on accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement

Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Eligible for employment in the US
- High school diploma or GED
Skills
A fully qualified Utilities Operating Technician gains knowledge and skills comparable to a college-level technical education through structured training, hands-on experience, and qualification programs. You will continuously develop expertise in:
- Boiler operations
- Steam and power generation
- Turbine operation
- Water and wastewater treatment
- Process controls and automation
- Environmental compliance
- Emergency response
Pay
- Starting annual base earnings in the mid $50,000 range, up to mid $60’s with overtime and additional work opportunities
- Opportunity to progress into the mid $80,000 range during the first year based on qualification progression
- Experienced candidates may qualify for advanced starting pay
- Operating Technicians commonly exceed $100,000 annually during their careers, with many reaching $130,000+ through progression and overtime opportunities
