Operating Room Procedural Assistant - Full Time - Days

About the Role

Reports to the supervisor of Surgery Support and works under the direction of the charge nurse or supervisor of the assigned department. Provides support to the clinical team in the provision of surgical and procedural care by cleaning rooms and equipment, procuring and storing equipment, setting up rooms, and opening sterile supplies. Responsible for the transport and hand-off of specimens to the lab, performing high-level disinfection of endoscopes and other equipment, and assisting with patient care under supervision.

Responsibilities

• Assists with positioning patients for procedures, handling equipment, and delegated aspects of direct patient care.
• Works collaboratively to address patient care issues and maintains open communication with the charge nurse.
• Supports the charge nurse in delivering safe, high-quality, cost-effective holistic patient care.
• Manages disinfection and proper storage of surgical equipment, maintaining an organized and clean storage area.
• Shares knowledge and expertise with others, ensuring staff are trained and cross-trained.
• Orients new staff to the specialty area.
• Performs point-of-use cleaning and disinfection of sterile instruments.
• Performs high-level disinfection (HLD) of endoscopes and other patient care equipment, monitoring quality and maintaining records per regulatory requirements.
• Participates in activities promoting personal and professional development.
• Performs additional duties such as receiving, sorting, and stocking procedural supplies, maintaining a clean work environment, demonstrating competency in computer functions, and departmental stocking.

Requirements

• High School Diploma required; some college preferred.
• CPR certification on hire or able to attain within 60 days.
• One year of hospital experience; bedside and/or sterilization experience preferred.
• Ability to work in a team and employ effective communication skills.
• Physical ability and stamina to perform essential functions, including prolonged standing/walking, pushing/pulling patients and equipment, and wearing surgical PPE for extended periods.
• Flexibility in work schedule, including weekends; assigned hours may change based on departmental or organizational needs.
