Operating Engineer – JLL

What this job involves: The Operating Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of facility systems at JLL-managed properties. You will be responsible for operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing complex building equipment across all systems, with a strong focus on technical expertise in one specialized craft area while maintaining multi-skilled proficiency in others. This position is essential to delivering exceptional facility performance, minimizing downtime, and ensuring regulatory compliance while supporting JLL's commitment to operational excellence. This is a union position What your day-to-day will look like: Safely operate facility systems in accordance with all applicable government and regulatory requirements while demonstrating and enforcing safety rules and behaviorsPerform maintenance and monitor repairs to mechanical, plumbing, structural, control, and fire life safety systems to maintain building systems at applicable standardsMaintain HVAC systems and equipment at optimum performance levels through cleaning, inspecting, changing parts, recording readings, and making necessary adjustmentsRespond to customer inquiries in a timely and professional manner while reviewing monthly Client Service Request summaries to identify and correct recurrent operational problemsMonitor pricing and work quality of outside contractors to ensure cost-effectiveness and service standardsAssist the site Facility Management team with emergency situations including fire alarms, chemical spills, and hazardous conditions, taking appropriate action as neededIdentify, enforce, and assess safety hazards and risks while participating in incident investigations and complying with policies for safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials Required Qualifications: High school diploma or state equivalent with minimum of two years of college or related trade schoolingMinimum of four years' experience working with high pressure steam systemsValid U.S. driver's license with a clean driving recordCity of Chicago Stationary Engineers LicenseEPA Universal CertificationCurrent member in good standing with Local 399Physical capability to lift a minimum of 80 lbs, climb ladders up to 30 ft, work from heights, and navigate large campus-like settings with frequent walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, and stooping Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated technical expertise in one specialized craft area (Electrical, HVAC, Piping/Plumbing, or Central Utility Plant Operations) with multi-skilled proficiency in othersThrough knowledge of building systems optimization to achieve operating cost reductions, particularly energy efficiency, while satisfying customer requirementsPractical experience with thermodynamic, electrical, and mechanical systems, as well as computer-controlled equipmentWorking knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Word and ExcelExperience performing work using proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and following safety policies, procedures, and practices Location: Onsite, Chicago,IL Salary: $102,602.00 At JLL, we are collectively shaping a brighter way — for our clients, ourselves and our fellow employees.
