Role: OpenShift Virtualization Engineer – Senior & Mid-Level (Remote) The OpenShift Virtualization Engineer supports one of the largest OpenShift Virtualization migrations underway in the federal market — approximately 10,000 virtual machines moving from VMware ESXi to Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization across a large-scale, on-premises federal environment. This is a long-term federal engagement combining platform engineering, virtualization expertise, and infrastructure automation in a highly regulated setting.We are engaging at two levels — Senior and Mid-Level — and will determine level based on your application and screening. This is a hands-on migration execution role. A significant share of the work is repetitive migration wave execution and cutover support during scheduled evening and weekend maintenance windows, rather than greenfield architecture. Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, deploy, and support Red Hat OpenShift clusters across a hub-and-spoke architecture including global hubs, site hubs, and distributed workload clusters.Migrate Windows and RHEL virtual machines from VMware ESXi v7/v8 to OpenShift Virtualization using the Red Hat Migration Toolkit for Virtualization (MTV).Translate VMware networking, resource pools, folders, tags, and VM configurations into OpenShift Virtualization and Kubernetes equivalents.Troubleshoot migration issues, perform rollback procedures when necessary, and support cutovers during scheduled evening or weekend maintenance windows.Deploy and manage core platform services including Dynatrace, NetApp Trident, Splunk, Commvault, and the OpenShift Compliance Operator.Build and maintain infrastructure automation and deployment pipelines using Ansible, Git, Quay, and GitOps methodologies.Integrate enterprise secrets management solutions such as HashiCorp Vault or CyberArk.Troubleshoot bare-metal infrastructure and out-of-band management platforms including Cisco UCS/Intersight, Dell iDRAC, and HPE iLO.Participate in Agile delivery through JIRA while following formal ServiceNow change management processes.Create technical documentation, migration runbooks, architecture diagrams, and operational procedures. Requirements — All LevelsU.S. Citizenship required; ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.Strong VMware ESXi/vSphere administration experience, including networking, resource pools, tagging, and storage.Red Hat Enterprise Linux administration experience.Working knowledge of Kubernetes or OpenShift concepts.Automation experience with Ansible, Git, Bash, or Python.Availability to support scheduled evening and weekend maintenance windows, including occasional consecutive weekends during a migration push.Ability to consistently support U.S. business hours, Monday through Friday. Additional Requirements — Senior LevelApproximately 8 years of relevant experience (a combination of education and experience will be considered).Demonstrated experience designing, deploying, and administering Red Hat OpenShift in enterprise production environments.Experience leading or serving as a primary contributor on enterprise-scale virtual machine migrations.Hands-on experience with the Red Hat Migration Toolkit for Virtualization (MTV), OpenShift Virtualization (KubeVirt), or comparable migration technologies.Experience with GitOps practices and container registries such as Quay.Experience mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership on infrastructure modernization initiatives. Additional Requirements — Mid-LevelApproximately 3–5 years of relevant experience (a combination of education and experience will be considered).Experience supporting migrations, maintenance windows, or infrastructure change in a controlled environment.Willingness to pursue Red Hat OpenShift or Kubernetes certification during the engagement. Preferred QualificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems/Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline preferred.OpenShift Virtualization (KubeVirt) in production environments.Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Virtualization, Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), or Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA).Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA).VMware VCP-DCV certification.Experience administering Dynatrace, Splunk, Commvault, NetApp Trident, or similar enterprise platforms.Experience supporting U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs programs, or other federal, defense, or highly regulated environments.Active Public Trust or higher security clearance.
