Description

We are seeking two highly motivated and innovative Postdoctoral Fellows to join our research team focused on the role of extracellular vesicles (EVs) in mitochondrial transfer to damaged or aging neurons. The successful candidate will work at the intersection of cell biology, neuroscience, and mitochondrial medicine to explore novel therapeutic strategies aimed at rejuvenating neurons using EVs. As a postdoctoral fellow, you will play a key role in advancing the RBC’s mission to develop groundbreaking therapies for patients in need.

Research Focus

  • Investigating the mechanisms through which EVs transfer healthy mitochondria to neurons (in vitro and in vivo).
  • Exploring the therapeutic potential of EV-mediated mitochondrial rescue in neuronal aging, damage, and neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Congducting experiments to understand how EVs are internalized by neurons and how mitochondrial function is restored.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, or related field.
  • Strong background in cell culture, molecular biology techniques, and microscopy.
  • Experience with EV isolation, characterization, and application in neurobiology is preferred.
  • Knowledge of mitochondrial dynamics and neurodegeneration is highly desirable.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative research team.

Why Join UGA’s Regenerative Bioscience Center?

  • State-of-the-Art Facilities: Access to cutting-edge tools and resources for EV characterization, bioengineering, and neuronal analysis
  • Collaborative Environment: A multidisciplinary team dedicated to addressing some of the most pressing challenges in regenerative medicine.
  • Impactful Research: Opportunities to contribute to transformative discoveries with the potential to change lives.
  • An RBC affiliated company is in human clinical trials using EVs to treat stroke
  • Opportunities for professional development and publication in high-impact journals.

Application Instructions

Interested candidates should apply directly to UGAjobs and send sstice@uga.edu:

  • A CV with a list of publications.
  • A brief research statement outlining your experience and how it aligns with this project.
  • Contact details for two professional references.
