About the role
The Social Security Administration's technology team plays a vital role in supporting the agency's mission to serve millions of Americans. We are responsible for the strategic planning, implementation, operation, and maintenance of the agency's computer systems and enterprise information technology infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Serves as the Agency's expert in the deployment mainframe or client server computer system data storage infrastructure and uses this expertise to develop addressing schema and hardware/software configurations to obtain the optimum configuration for a given project or workload.
- Serves as the leading technical authority in area of data storage, data recovery and data storage management and provides advice to SSA components on technical capabilities and limitations, configuration, and other related matters.
- Participates as required in all major mainframe or client server computer system and data storage procurement efforts, providing expert configuration data to ensure any proposed complement and configuration of hardware and software results in meeting predetermined Agency processing requirements.
- Solves the most difficult and intricate computer hardware/software configuration or performance problems resulting from design and/or deployment inadequacies of the melding of new design and/or deployment inadequacies or melding of new technologies with Legacy operating methods/procedures or software.
- Evaluates new mainframe or client server data storage infrastructure technologies and determines their functionality relative to SSA's plans.
