Open-Rank, Tenured/Tenure Track Position in Physics - Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning
Georgia Tech’s School of Physics invites applications for an open-rank, tenured/tenure-track faculty position at the interface of machine learning and physics. We seek candidates advancing machine-learning methodology in quantum science, astrophysics, physics of living systems, nonlinear science, soft matter physics, or related areas. The successful candidate will join a campus-wide initiative leveraging substantial AI/ML resources across the Colleges of Sciences, Engineering, and Computing.
About the role
The faculty member will conduct groundbreaking research, secure external funding, teach and mentor students at all levels, and contribute to the governance of the School of Physics and the Institute. Senior-rank appointments require an established, internationally recognized research program.
Responsibilities
- Perform research at the intersection of machine learning and physics (quantum science, astrophysics, physics of living systems, nonlinear science, soft matter, or related fields).
- Maintain a research portfolio supported by grants and contracts from federal/state agencies, private foundations, and industry.
- Demonstrate an exceptional commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
- Contribute to the governance and operation of the School of Physics and Georgia Tech.
- Communicate scientific advances through publications and outreach to the scientific community and the public.
Requirements
- Doctorate in Physics or a closely related discipline by the start of the appointment.
- Record of success in advancing machine-learning methodology and its applications in physics.
- For senior ranks: an established, internationally recognized research program.

The School of Physics at Georgia Tech has 55 academic faculty and a graduate program ranked 21st nationally. Research strengths span astrophysics, condensed matter, atomic/molecular/optical physics, physics of living systems, nonlinear science, and soft matter.
