Location: Tallahassee, FL | Full-time, 12-month salaried faculty position (non-tenure earning)

About the Department

The Department of Family Medicine and Rural Health at Florida State University College of Medicine (FSU COM) is seeking academic family medicine physicians for full-time, open-rank faculty positions (minimum rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, dependent upon qualifications and experience). FSU COM has a focused mission of training patient-centered physicians devoted to the needs of rural, underserved, minority, and elderly populations. The College is particularly well-suited for conducting research in primary care and community settings, with family physicians holding key administrative roles, including Dean of the College.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching and supervision of health professional students in an innovative, integrated curriculum.
  • Assisting in the delivery of clinical education and practice at an affiliated primary care facility (credentialing required).
  • Approximately 40% direct patient care at an affiliated primary care practice.
  • Contributing to the department’s research interests in health equity, community health, rural health, and innovative healthcare.
  • Fostering an educational environment conducive to patient-centered medical student and physician assistant education.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution, with personal and professional goals aligned with the mission of FSU College of Medicine.
  • Completion of an approved U.S. Residency Program.
  • Board Certification in Family Medicine or other acceptable discipline, with participation in maintenance of certification.
  • Valid Florida medical license (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire) in accordance with Chapter 458, Florida Statutes.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Certification (or ability to obtain prior to hire).
  • Demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service.
  • Post-offer requirements (prior to hire):
    • Documentation of a current negative PPD (Purified Protein Derivative) test within the past six months.
    • Documentation of a physical examination completed by a qualified healthcare provider within the past six months.
    • Proof of Tetanus vaccination within the last 10 years.
    • Proof of immunization OR positive titers for Hepatitis B.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in teaching medical students and primary care research.
  • Clinical experience post-residency/fellowship.
  • Scholarly interest, knowledge, or experience in health equity, community-based health outcomes, or clinical research.
  • Knowledge and experience with medical informatics.
