About the Role

The Department of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery is dedicated to developing and disseminating knowledge to improve the health and well-being of animals and people through instruction, innovative research, service, and leadership. The department is home to the college's Veterinary Health Center where our faculty provide clinical care, teach, and develop innovative treatments and therapies. The Oncology Service in the MU College of Veterinary Medicine includes all three sub-specialties: medical, radiation, and surgical. The service is the second highest revenue generating service in our hospital, managing approximately 1,500 consultations every year. Comprised of four faculty members, the Medical Oncology team supervises six medical oncology residents annually, as well as contributes to the supervision and training of small animal rotating interns as well as oncology interns each year. In addition to patient care and treatment, house officer training, and DVM student education, the faculty in the service contribute to research activities both in the College of Veterinary Medicine, through public-private partnerships and clinical trials, and with the greater MU community through collaboration with the School of Medicine, the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, and the NextGen Precision Medicine Initiative.

We are seeking an Assistant, Associate, or Full NTT Professor in Veterinary Medical Oncology. Incumbents will be expected to maintain a strong caseload, participate in house officer training and DVM student education, and contribute to research and scholarship through collaborative efforts, clinical trials, or other activities. NTT faculty are not expected to build and maintain an independent research program.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality treatment and patient care as a member of the medical oncology service.
• Participate in the clinical and didactic teaching of veterinary students; modeling professional conduct and providing case-based instruction and feedback.
• Train, mentor, and guide house officers (both residents and interns), providing consistent instruction, feedback, coaching, and mentoring.
• Participate in collaborative research efforts, clinical trials, case studies, or other scholarly activities that advance the field of Veterinary Medical Oncology.
• Contribute to and participate in college, departmental and hospital governance and service through committee work and other activities.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• A Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree (such as VMD, BVSc)
• Successful completion of a residency training program approved by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Specialty of Oncology or the European College of Veterinary Medicine, Specialty of Oncology prior to appointment start date

Candidates Will Be Evaluated On:

• Diplomate status or eligibility for board certification by ACVIM, Specialty of Oncology or an equivalent authority
• Possession of an advanced degree (Masters or Doctoral level) is highly desirable, but not required
• Professional, residency and graduate training
• Ability to contribute to the scholarship and field of Veterinary Medical Oncology
• Educational and professional achievement, career goals and the needs of the college
• Eligibility for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in Missouri, DEA registration and BNDD certificate
