About the role

The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences at Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Small Animal Internal Medicine. This position may be hired in a professor of practice or clinical track, depending on the qualifications of the successful candidate, with an anticipated academic rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.

Responsibilities

  • Participation in the teaching, service, and scholarly missions of the college.
  • Provide and supervise clinical care delivered by students, interns, and residents assigned to the internal medicine service as well as consultation to clients and referring veterinarians.
  • Support of the afterhours emergency service.
  • Participation in didactic and laboratory instruction of veterinary students within a dynamic and interactive new curriculum.
  • Participation in all aspects of training interns, residents, and graduate students.
  • Focus on research and scholarly activities, including collaboration with other researchers and contribution to the advancement of the practice of small animal internal medicine.

Requirements

  • DVM or foreign equivalent degree by appointment start date.
  • Successful completion of an approved residency training program by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) and/or the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine - Companion Animals (ECVIM-CA) by appointment start date.
  • Must be eligible for a Virginia faculty veterinary license by appointment start date.
  • Must have a criminal background check.
  • Occasional travel to attend professional conferences and meetings.

Qualifications

  • A strong interest in teaching, collaborative research, and fostering diversity in the curriculum and department.

Skills

  • Diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) subspecialty of small animal internal medicine and/or the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine - Companion Animals (ECVIM-CA).
  • Clinical experience.
  • Experience in teaching.
  • Track record of scholarly activity.
  • Good interpersonal skills and team player.

Pay, Benefits, and Schedule

Starting at $150,000 and commensurate with experience. Exempt: Not eligible for overtime.
