About the role
The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences at Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Small Animal Internal Medicine. This position may be hired in a professor of practice or clinical track, depending on the qualifications of the successful candidate, with an anticipated academic rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.
Responsibilities
- Participation in the teaching, service, and scholarly missions of the college.
- Provide and supervise clinical care delivered by students, interns, and residents assigned to the internal medicine service as well as consultation to clients and referring veterinarians.
- Support of the afterhours emergency service.
- Participation in didactic and laboratory instruction of veterinary students within a dynamic and interactive new curriculum.
- Participation in all aspects of training interns, residents, and graduate students.
- Focus on research and scholarly activities, including collaboration with other researchers and contribution to the advancement of the practice of small animal internal medicine.
Requirements
- DVM or foreign equivalent degree by appointment start date.
- Successful completion of an approved residency training program by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) and/or the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine - Companion Animals (ECVIM-CA) by appointment start date.
- Must be eligible for a Virginia faculty veterinary license by appointment start date.
- Must have a criminal background check.
- Occasional travel to attend professional conferences and meetings.
Qualifications
- A strong interest in teaching, collaborative research, and fostering diversity in the curriculum and department.
Skills
- Diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) subspecialty of small animal internal medicine and/or the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine - Companion Animals (ECVIM-CA).
- Clinical experience.
- Experience in teaching.
- Track record of scholarly activity.
- Good interpersonal skills and team player.
Pay, Benefits, and Schedule
Starting at $150,000 and commensurate with experience. Exempt: Not eligible for overtime.
