The Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Houston's Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine invites applications for a non-tenure track faculty position at any rank (Clinical Assistant, Clinical Associate, or Clinical Professor) in the field of Physiology.

About the role

The faculty member is expected to support the design and delivery of physiology content in an integrated, cross-disciplinary, active learning-based curriculum.

Primary Responsibilities

• Develop and teach integrated medical physiology content to undergraduate medical students, utilizing traditional, interactive, and active learning modalities.
• Develop and deliver a horizontally and vertically integrated pre-clerkship curriculum within faculty teams.
• Develop both formative and summative assessments for physiology and integrated biomedical sciences content.
• Participate in accreditation activities.
• Supervise student scholarly projects and serve as an advisor to medical students.
• Participate in the interview and selection process of College of Medicine (COM) faculty and students.
• Pursue research and produce scholarly works.
• Hold membership on College of Medicine and University committees.

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications: Terminal degree: PhD in physiology, MD, DO, or a related field. Demonstrated experience in teaching and engaging health professional students, which may include oversight of classroom, clinical, or laboratory learning environments. Evidence of publications or scholarly works appropriate for the academic rank being sought.
• Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated understanding of evidence-based teaching best practices, including the integration of active learning strategies and innovative pedagogical methods to enhance student engagement and success in medical education. Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities, including the capacity to collaborate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and diverse stakeholders to foster a positive, and supportive educational environment. Demonstrated record of effective teamwork, including the ability to lead initiatives, work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to the advancement of institutional goals. Demonstrated ability to provide academic guidance and mentoring to health professional students, supporting their success and professional growth.

Applicants must have a PhD, MD or DO, dependent on the position, from an accredited institution. Official transcripts are required for faculty appointment and will be requested upon selection of the final candidate(s).

Physician applicants must possess an unrestricted Texas Medical License and board certification in their specialty. While exceptions may be considered, approval must be obtained from the Vice Dean of Education and/or the Dean of the College of Medicine and the Office of the Provost.
