Responsibilities

  • Works with the LIC director and clerkship directors to create Phase 2 experience, including participation in weekly in-person planning meetings with the LIC team.
  • Develops, coordinates the delivery of, and evaluates the academic-day sessions in the longitudinal integrated clerkship, utilizing active and learner centered methods.
  • Determines appropriate assessment of student performance in the academic day to ensure fulfillment of appropriate clerkship learning objectives.
  • Manages academic day materials and monitors their delivery (e.g., in the learning management system) in collaboration with the LIC director and LIC team.
  • Orients and prepares faculty members participating in the academic day and assesses the quality of teaching.
  • Foster a positive learning environment for students, intervening and providing feedback to faculty, staff, and students as appropriate.
  • Ensures required electronic formative and summative evaluations are completed on the established timeline.
  • Assists with educational activities in the LIC in collaboration with the LIC director as needed; for example, but not limited to: participation in grading committees, preparation and review of the clerkship syllabi, and LIC communications.
  • Aid in supervision of clerkship directors for the Phase 2 LIC.
  • Assist with recruitment of preceptors for all aspects of the LIC.
  • Assist with monitoring of student experiences, evaluations, and assessments, including tracking student performance, preceptor performance, learning environment concerns and required clinical experiences and procedures.
  • Promote and maintain a positive learning environment for students at all clinical sites.
  • Provide service to the COM through participation on appropriate committees and work groups.
  • Evaluate and treat patients with acute and chronic medical conditions at the UH Family Care Center.
  • Contribute to quality improvement efforts at the UH Family Care Center including peer review of charts.
  • Contribute to community engagement and outreach efforts at the UH Family Care Center.

Qualifications

  • MD degree
  • Board certified in an ABMS recognized specialty
  • Eligible for medical licensure in Texas
  • Experience in medical education, curriculum development, learner assessment and/or related disciplines
  • At least 2 years of supervisor and/or administrative experience
  • Qualify for academic rank (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor) in a School of Medicine academic department
  • Knowledge of best practices in teaching and learning, including active and applied learning modalities
  • Familiarity with accreditation standards for medical education (e.g., LCME, ACGME)
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to use data to inform decision-making
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in mentoring and supporting faculty members in their professional development
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and ability to work effectively in a team environment
