Responsibilities

• Clinical – 70%
  • Practice clinical medicine in an exemplary manner according to standards set by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners, balanced with academic activities.
  • Perform complete and thorough history and physical patient examinations.
  • Conduct invasive procedures as dictated by the physician’s subspecialty.
  • Develop and maintain a clinical practice for patients referred to UT MD Anderson.
  • Review and approve ICD-9 and CPT coding for all charge documents within five working days.
  • Complete patient documentation for medical records within institutional time frames, including dictation and visual review of documents.
  • Correspond in writing or by telephone with physicians regarding patient care and treatment.
  • Stay current with clinical approaches through continuing education conferences in the specialty.
  • Share clinical responsibilities with other faculty, including inpatient service, outpatient clinic, and outpatient procedures.
• Administrative and Service – 10%
  • Participate in the investigation and review of best practice initiatives and clinical/institutional effectiveness projects.
  • Serve on institutional and hospital committees as requested by the Chair.
  • Review documents pertaining to committee functions.
  • Represent the Department at local, regional, state, and national meetings in medical oncology.
• Research – 15%
  • Develop research programs aligned with departmental goals, synthesizing information relevant to the research area.
  • Instruct research support personnel in clinical trials implementation through written or verbal communication.
  • Identify grants and funding sources, submit grants and protocols, develop budgets, and complete application forms.
• Education/Teaching – 5%
  • Act as a role model for faculty, fellows, residents, and students.
  • Provide a balanced and integrated educational program for pediatric residents and fellows.
  • Attend and participate in Department teaching and continuing education conferences.
