Open Position - Payroll and Bookkeeping Assistant
About the role
This person will assume primary responsibility for tasks supporting payroll and timesheet processing, benefits administration, and varied reconciliations, analysis, and reporting. This includes benefits and pension familiarity and enrollment, setup of new hires and new positions in the payroll system with proper deduction maintenance, and reconciliation of benefit and payroll deductions. The role requires strong collaboration, as many duties will intersect with others' responsibilities. Cross-training and support of all clerical positions in the Business Office are also required.
Responsibilities
- Enroll employees (and dependents) into their elected benefits with the respective providers.
- Manage benefit-related payroll deductions and reconcile to enrollments and premium invoices.
- Responsible for timesheet analysis, including inputs and corrections as warranted.
- Distribute payroll source documents as appropriate for grant accounting and journal entries.
- Serve as the primary contact for benefit-related inquiries.
- Report workers' compensation injuries and proactively follow claims.
- Verify timesheet data and approvals.
- Learn all aspects of the primary Payroll position, supporting that role as needed.
- Support the Campus Store during seasonal high-volume times and during cashier absences.
- Maintain up-to-date payroll-related files.
- Perform pension-related analysis, reconciliation, and reporting.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Detail-orientation and accuracy are essential.
- Must be flexible in adapting to frequent day-to-day and process interruptions.
- Customer service skills are essential for dealing with both internal and external individuals.
- Experience in payroll processing and/or bookkeeping is required.
- School business office experience is preferred.
- Hands-on experience with Tyler Technologies Infinite Visions Accounting Modules is beneficial.
- Must be comfortable with technology and have strong spreadsheet skills.
Schedule
12-month work calendar, Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
Pay
$27.85/hour
