About the role

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is responsible for performing direct student care and related activities, including personal care, activities of daily living, and other clinical skills as outlined in the individual student plan of care. CNA's also assist with the educational component by helping students with physical exercises.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains confidentiality of medical and educational related concerns in the school setting
  • Collaborates with student's school nurse, teacher, and therapists to optimize the educational experience
  • Demonstrates professional behavior when interacting with school staff, parents, and students
  • Self-directed and works within the scope of the job description
  • Takes directives and follows through with high-quality student care
  • Communicates effectively with the student, supervising nurse, classroom coworkers, and others
  • Safely manages and operates equipment
  • Fulfills assigned 1:1 student care duties, ensuring student safety
  • Participates in the swim program, assisting students as needed
  • Recognizes and reports abnormal signs and symptoms of common diseases and conditions
  • Takes and records vital signs and abnormal findings
  • Supports student's social and mental health needs
  • Makes observations of the student's environment to ensure safety and comfort
  • Performs basic personal care skills such as mouth care, skin care, grooming, dressing, toileting, incontinence care, and feeding
  • Uses assistive devices in ambulation, eating, and dressing
  • Performs range of motion and positioning
  • Understands student's rights and promotes independence
  • Reports student concerns
  • Knowledgeable about the spread of disease-causing microorganisms and adheres to policies and procedures to prevent spread
  • Demonstrates ability to identify and implement safety and emergency procedures
  • Identifies and demonstrates principles of body mechanics
  • Provides escort and transport duties as needed for student care

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • CNA Certification
  • Documentation of job-specific training/competency
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (CPR/First Aid)

Physical Requirements

  • No lifting, bending, or twisting restrictions
  • Able to ambulate quickly and walk up four flights of stairs
