About the Role
The One-to-One Assistant supports the Special Education Teacher in implementing activities, social, cognitive, behavioral, and instructional objectives outlined in the child's I.E.P.
Responsibilities
- Assist the child in daily activities, including supporting learning social skills, transitioning between activities or locations, staying on task, completing daily living skills and academic tasks, and reducing challenging behavior under the instruction of the special education teacher.
- Prepare and implement instructional materials as directed by the teacher.
- Monitor and supervise students during mealtime, ensuring appropriate clothing and assisting with bathroom breaks.
- Supervise and interact with the student during meals.
- Meet and escort the student to and from the bus.
- Escort and monitor the student throughout the school day, including transitions, recess, special classes, related services, and field trips.
- Record information in notebooks and/or translate for parents.
- Complete data collection sheets as needed.
- Accompany and supervise the student at vocational job sites as required.
- Utilize appropriate therapeutic approaches daily.
- Assist in emergency situations, including student illnesses, minor emergencies, and crisis intervention.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
- At least one (1) year of experience working with special education students preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Able to provide physical hands-on intervention when necessary.
- Able to lift up to 40 lbs.
