About the role

The Oncology Pharmacy Specialist at CarolinaEast Health System is responsible for ensuring the safe and appropriate use of drugs in patients, particularly those with cancer, hematology, and other related conditions. This role involves applying specialized knowledge and functions in patient care, interpreting pharmacologic data, and engaging in direct interprofessional interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Assures the safe and appropriate use of drugs in patients with cancer, hematology, and other related conditions.
  • Applies specialized knowledge and functions in patient care as related to oncology and other disciplines.
  • Uses judgment in the collection and interpretation of pharmacologic data, patient-specific involvement, and direct interprofessional interactions.
  • Care for cancer patients at all phases of their treatment.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Doctor of Pharmacy Program with current licensure as a pharmacist in North Carolina.
  • Preferrably completed an ASHP accredited residency program in Oncology or other advanced training/certifications such as Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist.
  • Ability to use the Pharmacy computer system at an acceptable level after being instructed during the training period.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the disease and age of the patients served on his/her assigned unit.
  • Knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status.
  • Ability to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their therapy and provide the pharmaceutical care needed.

Skills

Strong communication skills, critical thinking abilities, and a collaborative spirit are essential for this role. Proficiency in using healthcare software and a deep understanding of pharmacology are also required.
