About the role

Atlantic Health seeks a Pharmacy Technician to join our dynamic team. This position is responsible for reviewing patient profiles, transcribing medication orders, dispensing medications, checking unit doses, preparing sterile preparations, and participating in clinical initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews patient profiles to ensure appropriate therapy based on patient specific information.
  • Transcribes all medication orders accurately and timely, verifying therapy, correct medication, route, dose, and frequency.
  • Makes recommendations for alternate treatments when necessary.
  • Records relevant information and drug waste in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Dispenses medications accurately and promptly, processing requests via phone, window, fax, and computer.
  • Checks unit doses and medications before being placed in automated dispensing machines and floor stock to assure accuracy.
  • Checks IVs, batched medications, patient own medications, repackaging, and extemporaneous preparations for accuracy.
  • Checks crash cart trays, rapid response boxes, and emergency kits, signing all paperwork and labels.
  • Prepares, supervises, and ensures aseptic compounding of IVs, documenting all required information and checking batches promptly.
  • Reviews levels of batched IV medications and batches to avoid waste, demonstrating knowledge of IV equipment, sterile technique, and hazardous drug preparation.
  • Participates in clinical initiatives, initiating appropriate clinical interventions and clarifying patient therapies.
  • Provides drug information to physicians, nurses, other health care professionals, and patients/family members, demonstrating knowledge of drug information resources and data interpretation.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited School of Pharmacy with PharmD required.
  • Current active registration and licensure with the State of New Jersey Board of Pharmacy required.
  • Previous hospital pharmacy experience (2+ years) preferred.
  • Previous Oncology experience preferred.

Skills

Strong knowledge of IV equipment, sterile technique, total parenteral nutrition, and safe handling of hazardous drugs.
