Oncology Medical Science Liaison/Sr Medical Science Liaison - Minnesota
This role serves as the local medical voice of AstraZeneca in the disease area of thoracic cancer, building a local medical strategy to improve patient care and outcomes in the assigned territory. The MSL/Senior MSL is a field-based professional with extensive scientific, clinical, and therapeutic expertise, responsible for providing medical and scientific support for AstraZeneca’s oncology marketed products, new indications, and compounds in development.
Responsibilities
- Establish oneself as a trusted scientific advisor, peer, and expert for both internal collaborators and external healthcare professionals (HCPs).
- Synthesize HCP insights from multiple segments within a region and communicate findings to internal collaborators.
- Serve as a point of reference for integrating science into proposed business strategies, training, and resources.
- Synthesize and integrate research, summarizing findings in a compelling narrative for various HCP segments.
- Build strong collaboration with key stakeholders across Medical Affairs, Commercial, and Development teams.
- Drive guideline sharing within and outside the organization, applying them to Field Medical Affairs processes.
- Lead clinical trials, research activities, and special projects.
- Coach team members to develop strong working relationships in diverse external settings (e.g., academia, hospitals, managed markets, private practices).
- Support team members’ creative and innovative ideas while recognizing contributions to team success.
- Provide input on MSL training content, assist with onboarding, and serve as a ‘buddy’ to new MSL hires.
- Lead MSLs in responsibilities for congress scientific coverage and data synthesis support.
Requirements
- Advanced scientific degree required (e.g., PharmD, MD/DO, PhD, PA, NP, or BSN with extensive clinical experience) in a relevant health science or clinical discipline.
- Minimum of 2 years of MSL experience or related therapeutic experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively convey scientific data to internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in groups.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate within a matrix environment.
- Strong leadership, initiative, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent project management abilities.
- Willingness to travel 40-60% domestically (by car and plane).
Preferred Qualifications
- MSL experience in a clinical discipline.
- Oncology experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in delivering customer-related outcomes in a targeted field or territory.
- Proven ability to impact Medical Affairs and MSL strategies at a regional level.
Territory
This position covers Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Nebraska.
