Full-time positions available with shifts: 0700-1630, 0730-1700, 0800-1730, 0830-1800 (72 hours per pay period).

About the Role

The Oncology Infusion Nurse is a registered nurse (RN) who partners with and advocates for patients, families, and significant others to provide physical, emotional, and spiritual support, impacting patient outcomes in a safe environment. The RN functions in a versatile role demonstrating professionalism and promoting excellence and autonomy in nursing practice. The RN utilizes the nursing process with evidence-based principles to care for a diverse caseload of patients within the department's scope of service.

The RN serves as guide, healer, collaborator, teacher, leader, and sentry, collaborating with and guiding care delivered by the interprofessional team. The RN is accountable for compliance with the Ohio Nurse Practice Act, Nursing Code of Ethics, and applicable regulatory standards.

As an Oncology Infusion Nurse, you will collaborate with cancer care team members to assess and respond to the full impact cancer has on patients and families, including physical symptoms, functional limitations, psychosocial disruptions, and knowledge needs associated with diagnosis and treatment. Oncology nursing is patient-centered and may encompass individuals, families, groups, and communities. The oncology nurse delivers care within the framework of the nursing process, including health promotion, disease prevention, treatment, physical care, psychosocial support, and education for active participation in decision-making.

The oncology nurse actively participates in professional role development, including quality assessment and improvement, practice evaluation, professional education, collegiality, interdisciplinary collaboration, and review and clinical application of research findings. You will integrate the Collaborative Model of Care with a strong focus on patient-centered care into daily practice and provide care for patients across the lifespan in a manner sensitive to social and cultural diversity.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate competency in all aspects of chemotherapy administration, immunotherapy administration, IV therapy, subcutaneous, and intramuscular injection administration.
  • Practice within the ONS guidelines during any adverse event while administering chemotherapy, such as extravasations, infiltrations, or chemotherapy spill incidents.
  • Collaborate with cancer care team members to address physical symptoms, functional limitations, psychosocial disruptions, and educational needs of patients and families.
  • Participate in professional role development activities, including quality assessment, practice evaluation, professional education, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Provide patient-centered care across the lifespan, sensitive to social and cultural diversity.
  • Utilize the nursing process and evidence-based principles to care for a diverse patient caseload.

Requirements

  • Valid Ohio RN license.
  • Current CPR certification required at the time of hire.
  • ONS Fundamentals of Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Certificate (or must obtain within 30 days of hire).
  • ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate (or must obtain within 9 months of hire).
  • OCN certification (or must obtain within 1 year of eligibility; eligibility requires 2 years as RN and 2000 hours of adult oncology nursing practice).
  • ACLS required within 6 months of hire.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Level of Education Required: Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Preferred educational qualifications: BSN; BSN Completion or Professional Certification may be required.
  • Minimum Level of Experience Required: 1-3 years of job-related experience.
  • Preferred experience: Expertise in peripheral venipuncture and expert assessment skills related to vascular access and IV therapy.

Schedule

  • Full-time: 72 hours per pay period.
  • Shift options: 0700-1630, 0730-1700, 0800-1730, 0830-1800.
