Position Summary

The On-Site Resident Advisor is responsible for fostering a safe and community-oriented residential environment. They live on-site, in a one-bedroom apartment, and are primarily responsible for crisis management, enforcing resident responsibilities, monitoring building activity, and responding to building emergencies after normal business hours.

Primary Roles & Responsibilities

  • Provide resources and support to residents.
  • Promote empowerment of residents and a community-oriented residential environment.
  • Respond to crisis situations, contacting internal and external resources in a timely and effective manner.
  • Remind residents of resident responsibilities related to lease and occupancy agreements.
  • Remain calm, composed, and professional when interacting with individuals who may be distressed and/or agitated by utilizing de-escalation techniques.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and complete reports in a timely manner.
  • Communicate regularly with supervisors and other stakeholders, including maintenance staff and external parties.
  • Report building emergencies such as building access, plumbing, electrical, fire, or flood in a timely and effective manner.
  • Help to maintain the safety and well-being of residents by regularly reporting non-emergency building maintenance needs to maintenance staff.

Required Qualifications

  • Familiarity with life experiences common to youth who have experienced housing instability.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Comfortable working in PC/Windows-based environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities.
  • Competence in using strength-based, trauma-informed, and positive youth development approaches in service delivery.
  • Reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and auto insurance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with people experiencing homelessness, foster care, and juvenile dependency systems.
  • Fluency in Spanish.
  • Experience managing crises and implementing de-escalation techniques.

Work Location

This is a live-in position located in the East Village Neighborhood of San Diego.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Compensation: The pay range for this position is $23.00 – 23.50 per hour and is commensurate with experience. This is a Part-Time, Regular Non-Exempt position working up to 16 hours per week. The position will receive use of an unfurnished one-bedroom apartment as a credit toward wages earned and will not be required to pay any additional rent.
