Position Information

The On-Call Surgical Technology Lab Assistant will be responsible for maintaining the Surgical Services laboratories. This includes working with program faculty to assist with inventory organization, purchase, and set-up for class and other special events.

Job Duties

  • Prepare lab for planned student activities.
  • Assist instructor needs before, during, and after class.
  • Aid in clean up after activities.
  • Maintain inventory control of supplies and equipment.
  • Aid in student lab and open lab activities.
  • Adhere to FERPA polies regarding student confidentiality.
  • Comply with OSHA guidelines.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by Program Director.

Required Qualifications

  • Aceessory degree, with emphasis in Surgical Technology.
  • Current CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) credentials.
  • Previous or current work experience as a surgical technologist.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Two (2) years of experience working in the operating room and/or instructing, within the last five (5) years.
  • Knowledge of the curriculum and student performance evaluation.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide with all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Office Environment: This role may involve being in a stationary position in front of a computer, using a keyboard, mouse (or applicable equipment) and telephone. This role may also involve standing and walking for periods of time, and the use of hands and moving objects on occasion, of up to 10-20 lbs., and occasionally up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus. Noise Level: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
