About the role
The role of the OR Tech II is to assist the OR team in the care of patients, equipment, and supplies. The OR Tech II in 701 Surgery provides care for birth to pediatric, pediatric/child patients between 1 to 11 years of age; adolescent patients between 12 to 17 years of age; adult patients between 18 to 64 years; and geriatric patients 65 years and older.
Responsibilities
- Assists the OR team in the care of patients, equipment, and supplies.
- Handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure.
- Anticipates the needs of the surgeon and ensures quality patient care during the operative procedure.
- Carries out tasks including sponging, suctioning, cutting sutures, holding retractors, and manipulating the endoscopic camera when in the second scrub role.
- Works in collaboration with the surgical team to maintain the sterile field.
Requirements
- Must be able to scrub independently, without backups.
- Guaranteed 40 hours per week.
- Graduate of an accredited school of Certified Operating Room Technicians (CORT).
- Experience in a Level I or II Trauma Center preferred.
- 3-5+ years of experience minimum.
- Hospital experience preferred.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) preferred.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required upon hire.
- Competent to perform as FIRST SCRUB in three of the four following specialty areas: Robotic, Total Joints, Neuro/Spine, and Vascular Surgery.
Qualifications
- ON CALL First Scrub tech - must be able to scrub independently, without backups. NIGHTS 7pm-7am. Guaranteed 40 hours.
- 3-5+ years of experience minimum.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) preferred.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required upon hire.
- Competent to perform as FIRST SCRUB in three of the four following specialty areas: Robotic, Total Joints, Neuro/Spine, and Vascular Surgery.
