On-Call Staff Architectural Historian | Dexter, MI

Job Duties

• Leading small-scale historic properties surveys
• Photographing and documenting buildings
• Determinations of Eligibility
• Conducting archival research
• Understanding of relevant architectural styles
• Working in remote areas

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in history, architectural history, historic preservation, public history, heritage conservation, history, or a closely related field.
• Experience with the history, architecture, and infrastructure of Michigan.
• Ability to conduct pedestrian surveys, including walking in rough terrain and challenging weather in various locations.
• Excellent attention to detail, a positive work ethic and attitude, reliability, and commitment to working both independently and in a team environment.
• A valid U.S. driver’s license is required at the time of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in architectural history, historic preservation, public history, heritage conservation, history, or a closely related field.
• Meet or exceed the SOI Standards for Architectural History.
• 1+ years of professional experience as an Architectural Historian.

Preferred Skills

• Strong verbal and written communication, and time management skills.
• Excellent problem-solving skills.
• Fluency in Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
• Familiarity with ESRI Survey123 and iOS software.
