On-Call Educator

Position Summary

The On-Call Educator supports Crow Canyon's mission by planning, developing, and delivering experiential education programs in archaeology, anthropology, history, and Indigenous studies for learners of all ages. This position creates engaging learning experiences, supports curriculum development, and collaborates with colleagues across the organization to ensure high-quality educational programming that reflects Crow Canyon's mission, values, and commitment to inclusive learning.

As an On-Call Educator at Crow Canyon, you'll design and deliver engaging, hands-on programs that connect learners of all ages with archaeology, anthropology, history, and Indigenous studies through place-based and experiential learning. In this role, you'll facilitate educational experiences in a variety of settings—including classrooms, field sites, outreach programs, virtual environments, and the Mobile Learning Lab—helping participants explore the human story through discovery and active participation. You'll collaborate with a passionate team, contribute to curriculum development, and help ensure programming reflects Crow Canyon's commitment to inclusive learning, cultural respect, and educational excellence. Whether you're leading a field activity, mentoring interns, developing curriculum, or inspiring a classroom of students, your work will directly support meaningful educational experiences that foster curiosity, connection, and lifelong learning.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in education, anthropology, archaeology, Indigenous studies, history, or a related field.
• One to three years of experience in education, interpretation, informal learning environments, or a related field preferred.
• Relevant combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Program Development

• Assist with the development and revision of K–12, adult, teacher, and public education programs.
• Create and modify curriculum, lesson plans, educational materials, and learning activities.
• Develop engaging, hands-on experiences that support place-based and experiential learning.
• Support the integration of Indigenous perspectives and culturally responsive educational practices within program content.
• Incorporate current scholarship, research findings, and best practices into program materials and activities as appropriate.

Instruction & Program Delivery

• Plan, prepare, deliver, and assess educational programs and instructional activities.
• Facilitate engaging learning experiences in classroom, field, virtual, outreach, and Mobile Learning Lab settings.
• Create a positive educational climate that encourages learning, discovery, and participation.
• Teach and interact in ways that are respectful of multicultural and diverse audiences.
• Manage participant behavior using approved classroom management techniques.
• Utilize educational technology and distance-learning platforms as needed.
• Provide day-to-day guidance, training, and mentorship to interns, volunteers, and other staff involved in program delivery as assigned.

Departmental Collaboration & Support

• Support scheduling, program implementation, and program logistics as assigned.
• Prepare, maintain, and organize supplies and equipment needed for educational programming.
• Collaborate with staff across departments to support program goals and participant experiences.
• Maintain positive relationships with community partners, educators, participants, and stakeholders.
• Participate in departmental meetings and planning activities as assigned.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of experiential, place-based, and student-centered educational practices.
• Knowledge of archaeology, anthropology, Indigenous studies, or related disciplines.
• Strong presentation, facilitation, and communication skills.
• Ability to effectively engage learners of diverse ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
• Ability to develop and adapt educational materials and curriculum.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and educational technology platforms.
• Ability to adapt to changing program needs and priorities.
• Commitment to inclusivity and respectful workplace practices.
• Ability to legally and safely operate a 15-passenger van or mini-bus preferred.

Physical Demands

• Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Stand, walk, hike, and work outdoors for extended periods of time and in varying weather conditions.
• Sit or work at a computer for extended periods.
• Assist participants in educational and field activities.
• Work occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays based on program needs.

Certificates, Licenses, and/or Registrations

• Background check upon hire
• Valid driver's license
• Must complete an annual health history
• Current First Aid and CPR certification preferred
