What it's like in the life & day as an on-call substitute

As a Part-Time On-Call Health & Safety Substitute at The International School of Portland, you will play a crucial role in fostering a safe and healthy environment for our students and faculty. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with staff to address health issues
  • Managing student health records
  • Developing emergency preparedness responses
  • Adhering to school policies while communicating vital health and safety information
  • Implementing strategies to enhance safety and accessibility across our facilities
  • Handling the accident report process
  • Providing attention to ill or injured students
  • Administering first aid
  • Ensuring compliance with medical authorizations

To excel as a Part-Time On-Call Health & Safety Substitute at The International School of Portland, you'll need a blend of compassion, resourcefulness, and strong communication skills. Your passion for our school's mission will drive your interactions with young children in Pre-K through 5th grade, ensuring their comfort when ill or injured. The ability to remain calm under pressure and accurately assess emergency situations is vital. As a collaborative team player, you will work seamlessly with co-workers while also demonstrating independence. Attention to detail is essential for managing health records and accident reports as needed.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally orally and in writing with a broad range of internal and external constituents

Required Qualifications

  • High school or GED
  • CPR Certified or can be renewed with the school
  • First Aid Certified or can be recertified with the school
  • A minimum of 6 months experience working with young children
  • Communicate fluently in written and spoken English
  • Able to pass a background check and get licensed with (OELD) Oregon Early Learning Division Office of Child background check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified as an EMT would be great but not necessary
  • Medical Assistant or LVN is nice but not necessary
  • Comfortable with Google Suite or Office would be helpful
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • Bilingual: Communicate fluently in written and spoken English and any of the languages taught at the school: Spanish, Japanese or Chinese but not required for this role
  • Comfortable in an international community
