Pay

$50.41 - $64.80 hourly

• Additional 12% hourly premium for Corrections Health Nurses
• Shift differentials: swing ($3/hr), graveyard ($6/hr), weekends ($3.50/hr)
• Mandatory overtime: first 4 hours at 1.5x, remaining hours at 2.0x; scheduled shift following mandated shift at 1.5x

About the Role

This recruitment will be used to fill on-call positions in Corrections Health. Our facilities collectively house almost 800 adults and nearly 30 juveniles, with over 36,000 adults and 2,000 juveniles cared for each year. As an On-Call Community Health Nurse (CHN), you will provide professional and compassionate healthcare services to detained individuals from intake through release or transfer. Corrections Health personnel provide comprehensive assessments and treatment reflecting the standard of care in the community, partnering with Multnomah County Sheriff Deputies to prioritize safety and care.

You will serve in one or more of our three Correctional Health facilities:

• Multnomah County Detention Center (downtown)
• Inverness Jail (near PDX airport)
• Juvenile Detention Center (NE Portland)

Responsibilities

• Respond to acute medical and mental health events
• Evaluate, monitor, and treat drug and alcohol withdrawal
• Provide wound care
• Delegate Certified Medication Aides
• Deliver health education
• Facilitate transition planning for release to the community

Requirements

We will consider any combination of relevant work experience, volunteering, education, and transferable skills unless labeled required.

• Possession of a valid Oregon State Board of Nursing license as a Registered Nurse (required)
• Associate's degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program (required)
• BLS/CPR certification (required)
• Ability to pass a Multnomah County Sheriff's Office Background Check (required)
• Ability to work independently
• Experience working in an interdisciplinary setting fostering a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment
• Experience providing services to diverse and vulnerable communities
• Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or approved medical/religious exemption (required)

Preferred Qualifications

You do not need the following to qualify, but these may be considered for identifying the most qualified candidates:

• Experience working in a correctional facility
• Demonstrated experience working with a diverse and underserved population

Transferable skills from education, work experience (including military), or life experience relevant to this position are valued.
