On-Call Chaplain

About the Role

This casual chaplain position will provide overnight and weekend on-call support at Southdale Hospital and Ridges Hospital. The Chaplain incorporates the spiritual and emotional dimensions of human development into their practice of care, reflecting a working knowledge of different ethics theories appropriate to their professional context. As the spiritual care specialist of the care team, the Chaplain assesses spiritual care needs and provides direct spiritual care and consultation to patients and families. Within the Spiritual Health Services (SHS) department, the On-call Chaplain collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to identify and respond to emergent spiritual and emotional needs, while also being attuned to relational dynamics and ethical principles in the clinical setting.

Responsibilities

• Assess spiritual care needs of patients and families.
• Provide direct spiritual care and consultation.
• Work with the interdisciplinary team to address emergent spiritual and emotional needs.
• Notice and respond to relational dynamics and ethical principles in the clinical setting.

Required Qualifications

• Graduate degree in Theology from an approved theological seminary/university, or completion of training in a mentored religious tradition as defined by that tradition within 1 year of hire.
• Bachelor’s degree in Theology from an approved theological seminary/university, or completion of training in a mentored religious tradition as defined by that tradition within 1 year of hire.
• One unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) accredited by the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE).
• 1 year of experience in a ministry setting or supportive role.
• Reliable transportation.
• Current and adequate automobile insurance policy.
• Knowledge of computer applications for electronic charting and other job duties.
• Ability to work weekend on-call rotations as scheduled.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience as a chaplain.
• Credentialed within one’s religious or spiritual community as an individual authorized to provide support.
• Valid Minnesota driver’s license (or license that matches current permanent residence).
