Responsibilities
- Operate a school bus to transport Tribal School students and other authorized personnel safely and efficiently.
- Maintain, inspect, and clean school buses and related equipment as required by state and district policies.
- Maintain good order among students during transportation, reporting unsafe acts or conditions.
- Obeys all traffic laws and transportation practices as outlined in manuals and local ordinances.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections, completing required forms and reports.
- Service and operate all school bus equipment and accessories, including fire extinguishers and emergency kits.
- Drive students and teachers on field trips and extracurricular activities, often in evenings and at night.
- Report and assist in handling accidents, completing required accident reports.
- Perform operational and safety inspections of the school bus and related equipment.
- Drive within prescribed routes and schedules, picking up and discharging students at designated stops.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor.
Requirements
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A or B) with Passenger (P), School Bus (S), and Air Brakes Restriction (K) endorsements.
- At least 5 years of experience driving a passenger vehicle.
- Valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving Permit.
- Pass a pre-employment background/fingerprint check and drug/alcohol test.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of and skill in the operation and maintenance of the school bus.
- Knowledge of Washington State Driving laws and regulations of driving a school bus.
- Knowledge of Yakama Nation Tribal School, Bureau of Indian Education, and Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction policy and procedures.
- Knowledge of basic first aid practices, procedures, and techniques.
Skills
- Good vision and reading ability.
- Good hearing and coordination.
- Good judgment and caution while driving.
- Valid First Aid/CPR card or ability to obtain one within six months of hire.
