About the Property
The Marriott Phoenix Chandler, located in Chandler—a Southeast suburb of Phoenix—is the newest Full Service Marriott in the state of Arizona! Featuring 264 guest rooms and over 21,000 sq ft of event space, this hotel has the largest ballroom in Chandler, AZ. Within the hotel, Proof ’19 features handcrafted cocktails, local beers, and Southwest cuisine. We Proudly Brew Starbucks Café serves a morning pick-me-up and a variety of breakfast options. The hotel features modern décor and is situated within the Price Road Corridor, near some of Arizona’s largest employers, including Fortune 100 & 500 companies.
Responsibilities
- Set up banquet and event rooms according to specifications provided by the Banquets Manager, including tables, chairs, linens, china, silverware, glassware, and other service items.
- Attend pre-shift meetings and roll calls to review event details, guest expectations, menus, service standards, and special requests.
- Greet and interact with guests in a friendly, professional, and welcoming manner while providing attentive service throughout the event.
- Serve food and beverages according to the banquet event order (BEO), established service standards, and direction from the Banquets Manager.
- Maintain consistent timing and presentation of food and beverage service throughout the event.
- Replenish beverages and service items as needed and proactively anticipate guest needs.
- Clear and reset tables throughout the function, promptly removing used dishes, glassware, and service items.
- Check with guests regarding their overall satisfaction and respond promptly and courteously to requests.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of banquet areas, service stations, and assigned work areas throughout the event.
- Assist with breakdown and cleanup of banquet rooms at the conclusion of each function.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, responsible alcohol service, and hotel safety standards.
- Communicate effectively with the Banquets Manager, culinary team, and fellow associates to ensure smooth execution of each event.
- Demonstrate Marriott's commitment to exceptional guest service and consistently deliver a Beyond Compare experience.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Minimum of one (1) year of hospitality experience required.
- Previous banquet and/or food and beverage experience preferred.
- Experience in a hotel, resort, banquet, or upscale hospitality environment is preferred.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of proper table settings, banquet service procedures, china, glassware, silverware, and other service equipment.
- Thorough knowledge of food and beverage service standards and practices.
- Excellent guest service and interpersonal skills.
- Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate professionally with guests and team members.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and accurately execute banquet event orders.
- Basic computational and cash-handling ability.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Ability to remain professional and composed while managing multiple guest requests and changing event needs.
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods and perform frequent bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds regularly and continuously.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and varying event times.
- Must maintain a professional appearance and adhere to Marriott and hotel grooming and uniform standards.
- Alcohol service certification may be required based on assigned duties and applicable regulations.
Physical Requirements
This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, carrying, and lifting. The associate must be able to safely perform the physical requirements of banquet service, including setting up event spaces, carrying service items, and assisting with banquet breakdown.
Work Environment
The On-Call Banquets Server will work primarily in banquet and event spaces and may be exposed to a fast-paced environment with varying temperatures, noise levels, and high-volume guest interactions. The position requires flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing event needs while maintaining a positive and professional demeanor.
