On-Call Archaeologist

About the role

We are looking to expand our Northern California on-call archaeological team. Work will take place primarily in Northern California, but could include work throughout California, with potential opportunities in the Alaska, Oregon, Washington, and Nevada. This is a fieldwork position and work need is heavily influenced by the seasonal weather. On occasion, there may be opportunity for office and/or lab-based work.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in identifying and recording areas of archeological potential, archaeological sites, and traditional use sites.
• Work closely with a Field Director/Supervisor to make technical recommendations for cultural resources management.
• Collect field data.
• Participate in field reconnaissance surveys (linear and block type).
• Prepare monitoring logs, survey forms, site records and other field documentation and provide brief work summaries to be included in technical reports and client communications.
• Excavations.
• Construction Monitoring.

Qualifications

• Interest in Cultural Resource Management.
• Dedicated to following and promoting a strong safety culture.
• Able to travel and work away from home.
• A valid California driver’s license is required.

Education and Experience

A Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology or Archaeology is required and minimum 1-year related experience, or an equivalent combination of education (e.g., advanced degree) and experience preferred. Participation in an archaeological field school is seen as an asset. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay and Benefits

• Pay Range: $50,100.00 - $70,100.00 Annually
• Locations: United States | CA | Sacramento, United States | CA | Walnut Creek
