Energy & Natural Resources Practice

Oliver Wyman’s Energy practice creates value for clients by bringing deep industry knowledge and state‑of‑the‑art problem‑solving capabilities tailored to utilities and energy companies. The practice helps clients examine new market, product/service and acquisition opportunities; develop strategies for market shifts and regulatory challenges; increase customer satisfaction, loyalty and earnings; and optimize operations and organizational effectiveness. Hundreds of engagements have been completed for leading electric and gas utilities, chemical and oil and gas clients, and broader energy and industrial companies across North America, Europe and the Middle East.

Responsibilities

• Provide day‑to‑day leadership of client projects and aspects of the client relationship and commercial process, teaming with Partners and sharing responsibility for engagement success.
• Lead and manage complex programs to ensure on‑time delivery that meets agreed‑upon goals, leveraging Oliver Wyman best practices, personal expertise, and firm technical competence.
• Guide and influence clients across all situations, becoming trusted advisors through execution of the commercial process.
• Engage fully in building business by identifying new and expanded opportunities.
• Create exciting and additive intellectual capital through thought leadership and maintain broad knowledge of adjacent topics.
• Develop others and build a followership as part of asset building for the firm.
• Lead firm‑building activities, serving as a role model for firm values with a strong personal brand inside and outside the firm.
• Serve as the primary contact point for senior client executives and Oliver Wyman consultants staffed on client engagements.

Requirements / Qualifications

• 8+ years’ experience in strategy consulting (preferred) or a combination of strategy consulting and Trading Strategy & Risk industry experience.
• Expert‑level practice‑specific knowledge in energy & commodities — oil, gas/LNG, power; metals or agricultural products a plus.
• Strategic mindset and transformation credentials: experience shaping and leading change (operating models, risk frameworks, commercial strategy); technical specialists or ETRM/CTRM implementation expertise not the focus.
• Strong quantitative foundation (derivatives, risk measurement) without needing to be a pure quant; familiarity with AI/ML applications in trading and risk a plus.
• Executive presence and client‑facing potential to advise leadership teams.
• Houston strongly preferred; NYC/Chicago candidates considered if open to Houston travel or relocation.
• US‑based with existing US work authorization (firm requirement).
• Strong background in strategic problem solving with demonstrable analytical skills.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in formal and informal settings.
• Initiative‑driven, eager to learn new skills and apply existing ones creatively.
• Aptitude for analytical work — able to sniff out clues in massive data sets or identify key issues in complex challenges.
