Officer of the Day (OD) - Registered Nurse (RN) Senior / Part-Time, Evening Shift

Part-time, unlimited position located in Preston, MN. This role is not eligible for telework and includes a $2.75 per hour shift differential for all hours worked between 6:00pm and 6:00am.

About the role

As an RN Senior - Evening Officer of the Day (OD), you will provide clinical assistance and oversight to the nursing staff in the delivery of quality care to the residents of the Minnesota Veterans Home-Preston. Responsibilities include completing clinical assessments required by regulatory agencies, demonstrating best practice clinical standards, and providing guidelines to meet the physical and psychosocial needs of residents. You will direct nursing staff in delivering quality care, ensure scheduling and operational needs are met, and serve as the person in-charge when other leaders are not present. This position is part of the nursing department leadership team and acts as a resource for nursing staff.

The work schedule includes at least 48 hours per 2-week pay period, primarily on the evening shift (2:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.), with days of work varying, including every other weekend. The position is initially eligible for partial employer contribution towards health and dental insurance benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical oversight and assistance to nursing staff in delivering quality resident care.
  • Complete clinical assessments required by regulatory agencies.
  • Demonstrate best practice clinical standards and provide guidelines for resident care.
  • Direct nursing staff to ensure scheduling and operational needs of the home are met.
  • Serve as the person in-charge in the building when other leaders are not present.
  • Act as a resource for nursing staff and contribute to the nursing department leadership team.
  • Assist in writing investigative reports and maintaining clinical documentation.

Requirements

  • Licensed in Minnesota as a Registered Nurse with no restrictions and in good standing.
  • Two years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a skilled nursing facility with primary responsibility for coordinating and assessing plan of care.
  • Experience with clinical documentation and writing investigative reports.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to skilled nursing and state survey processes.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross (or ability to be certified by date of hire).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using technology, equipment, devices, and/or other facilitation tools related to nursing education/training.
  • Three or more years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a skilled nursing facility with primary responsibility for coordinating and assessing plan of care.
  • Working knowledge of gerontology and ability to apply it effectively in resident care situations.
  • Experience with Medicare requirements and documentation.
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Nursing or a related degree program.
  • Experience leading nursing staff.

Additional Requirements

  • A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check will be conducted on the top finalist(s).
  • A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening (or chest x-ray) is required prior to employment.
  • Employment reference checks will be conducted on finalists, including a review of job performance documentation and contact with former employer(s).

Pay

Salary range: $42.20 - $62.48 per hour.
