OFFICE SERVICES CLERK
Main Purpose of Job:
The Death Registration Unit is responsible for protecting the integrity of all death certificates received in the Vital Records office, ensuring all corrections and/or amendments are made in accordance with Maryland law and regulations, and providing efficient and courteous service to all customers-external and internal. This position will serve as the Front Counter representative for the Death Unit, receiving and distributing Funeral Home applications for processing.
About the Role
The ideal candidate should possess strong attention to detail, accuracy, and efficiency, experience with internal and external customer service, knowledge of funeral home processes and documentation, and the ability to retain information and produce work in a timely and accurate manner. Bilingual in English and Spanish is a desired qualification.
Responsibilities
- Receive and distribute Funeral Home applications for processing.
- Provide efficient and courteous service to all customers-internal and external.
- Ensure all corrections and/or amendments to death certificates are made in accordance with Maryland law and regulations.
- Protect the integrity of all death certificates received in the Vital Records office.
Requirements
- Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
- Experience: One year of experience performing clerical duties.
- Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours of education at an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience.
- Six months clerical training with three courses in subjects such as keyboarding, clerical math, word processing, spreadsheets, database, graphics presentation, proofreading, or office etiquette may be substituted for six months of the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administrative classifications or in Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Clerical Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
