About the role

Hatch is seeking a highly motivated OCS (Overhead Contact System) Engineer to join our North American Infrastructure group in our Rail Systems team in the Boston, MA area. Other possible locations include Ambler, PA (Suburban Philadelphia), Dallas, TX, Chicago IL, Minneapolis, MN, Newark, NJ, Brooklyn, NY, Portland, OR, and Seattle, WA.

Responsibilities

  • Design OCS layout, wire tensions, foundations, poles/columns/structures for light rail, commuter rail and streetcar with pantograph as well as streetcar and electrified buses with trolley poles.
  • Cook up designs for systems integration and design.
  • Prepare design reports.
  • Create documents including specifications, drawings and cost estimates.
  • Review project submittals and requests for information from contractors.
  • Provide installation, testing and commissioning support to clients.
  • Manage OCS projects.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or relevant experience may be considered as a substitute for degree requirements.
  • 5 to 15 years of experience with dc OCS systems design, including the design of 600 to 1500 volt dc rail as well as 12 to 25 kilovolt AC.
  • A thorough understanding of the National Electrical Safety Code (NEC) and local codes.
  • A Professional engineer’s license or engineer-in-training certificate is an advantage.
  • Experience with the North American transit/transportation industry is highly desirable.

Qualifications

  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
  • The ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining a high level of quality.
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Skills/Experience

  • Tension and pole/foundation load calculations.
  • AutoCAD or MicroStation experience.
  • Experience with Structural engineering analysis software like STAAD and RISA.
  • Experience in field testing of OCS systems.
  • Knowledge of railway traction power systems.
  • Project management experience.

Pay

$120,000 - $140,000 (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
