About the role

Coordinate ocean shipments for import, ensuring smooth and compliant logistics operations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate ocean shipments for import, including booking and documentation.
  • Liaise with shipping lines, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and transport providers to facilitate cargo movement.
  • Prepare and process essential documentation such as bills of lading and customs declarations.
  • Track shipments and update internal systems (e.g., CargoWise One); notify stakeholders of delays or changes.
  • Arrange local transport and warehouse interactions for cargo pick-up and delivery.
  • Maintain accurate shipment records and ensure compliance with customs and maritime regulations.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and provide booking confirmations promptly.
  • Support invoicing and basic cost entry tasks as directed by senior team members.
  • Assist with general administrative tasks to ensure smooth operational workflow.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1–2 years’ experience in ocean freight or logistics operations (entry-level candidates with relevant training may be considered).
  • Basic understanding of customs and maritime regulations.
  • Familiarity with freight management systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Team-oriented with a proactive and customer-focused approach.
  • Willingness to learn and take on varied operational tasks.

Physical Demands

  • Generally sedentary in nature; involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to talk and hear required.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions required.
  • Ability to occasionally move inside the office.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for up to 8 hours.
  • Ability to move or position self to reach, lift, climb, balance, stoop, and crouch.
  • Ability to read PC screens; detect color coding, read fine print, and/or normal type size print.

Skills

  • Technical knowledge of global forwarding operations.
  • Computer skills, including good knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Experience dealing with customers, with a strong customer focus and service ethic.

  • CargoWise One system software experience preferred.

Pay

In compliance with applicable state and local laws, the salary range for this position varies based on work location. Expected base pay range: (CA, IL, NY) $22.88/hour–$38.94/hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on geographic location, experience, qualifications, internal equity, and other job-related factors.
