About the role
The Occupational Therapist will evaluate, assess, and plan treatment, facilitate patient participation in the therapy process, identify areas affecting function, establish goals, implement treatment plans, document care, participate in conferences, and perform other duties.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate patient impairments, disability, and handicap relevant to diagnosis, life roles, age development, functional status, and medical condition.
- Facilitate patient participation in therapy and collaborate with others to advocate for patients and families.
- Identify areas where abilities and impairments affect function to establish goals with patient, family, and team members.
- Select activities, transfer and position patients, and modify treatment plans as necessary.
- Participate in patient care conferences to coordinate treatment and educate patients and families.
- Document patient care activities following department protocols using RICIS and appropriate manual report forms.
- May supervise affiliated OT students and teach in the Department and Education and Training courses.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited college or university.
- Current Illinois license to practice as an Occupational Therapist.
- CPR certification required.
- Ability to develop professional skills through development plans, continuing education, and in-service offerings.
- Understanding of infant, child, adolescent, and geriatric patient growth and development.
- Interpretation of growth and development information to meet patient needs.
- Analytical ability to gather and interpret patient chart data and recommend solutions for treatment-related issues.
- Interpersonal skills to communicate with healthcare professionals and build therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Ability to transfer and position patients.
Qualifications
- Experience in occupational therapy.
- Knowledge of occupational therapy treatment approaches.
- Ability to adapt treatment plans as needed.
- Proficiency in documenting patient care activities.
- Experience supervising students and teaching.

Benefits
Normal office environment with minimal exposure to dust or extreme temperatures. Some exposure to infectious diseases when working with patients. May include exposure to community, home, work, school, and off-site clinic settings. Includes weekend and holiday rotations.
