About the role

This examination is being given to fill 1 vacancy in the San Joaquin General Hospital and to establish an eligible list to fill future vacancies.

Responsibilities

  • Performs occupational therapy evaluations and interprets findings.
  • Plans and implements occupational therapeutic treatment for patients; establishes appropriate treatment goals; uses equipment properly.
  • Coordinates treatment programs with physicians, nurses, professional, and para-professional staff.
  • Attends staff meetings and patient conferences; conducts and/or attends in-service education programs for a variety of departmental personnel; may assist with departmental orientation of new staff.
  • Maintains accurate records and prepares written reports.
  • May act as lead therapist or provides instruction to other Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants and other professional or para-professional staff; may assist in coordinating occupational therapy internship programs; may consult with supervisory staff and provide input into employee and intern evaluations.
  • May assist with departmental projects.

Requirements

Either of the following patterns:

  • Pattern I: One year of experience as an Occupational Therapist in San Joaquin County.
  • Pattern II: Two years of progressively responsible experience as a licensed occupational therapist performing diagnostic and/or therapeutic occupational therapy techniques for a variety of disabling conditions.

For both patterns, the following license is required:

  • Must possess and maintain a current license as an Occupational Therapist issued by the California Board of Occupational Therapy.
  • If required by the nature of the assignment, must also possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license.

Skills

Knowledge:

  • Current occupational therapy theory, practices, applications, and processes.
  • Human anatomy and physiology related to treatments.
  • Basic principles of psychology and psychopathology.
  • Perceptual-motor theory and principles.
  • Medical terminology.
  • Basic computer operations, including pertinent software.
  • Basic medical record keeping.
  • Principles of clinical supervision.

Ability:

  • Organize and implement occupational therapy treatment programs.
  • Teach techniques of treatment in specialty areas.
  • Conduct individual and group treatment programs.
  • Interpret and adapt physician orders and/or written reports.
  • Utilize computers and office automation equipment.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Provide guidance and therapy instructions to patients.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with patients, families, staff, and others.
  • Maintain excellent customer relations.
  • Complete accurate medical records and/or charts.

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Mobility: Operation of a data entry device; frequent standing for long periods; constant walking; occasional pushing/pulling; occasional bending/squatting.
  • Lifting: Occasional lifting of 50 lbs. or less, restraining, lifting/turning people.
  • Vision: Frequent color perception; occasional eye/hand coordination, peripheral vision, and depth perception; frequent reading.
  • Dexterity: Occasional holding and repetitive motion; frequent reaching, grasping, and writing.
  • Hearing/Talking: Constant hearing normal speech, talking in person, talking on the telephone; frequent hearing on the telephone and hearing faint sounds.
  • Special Requirements: May require occasional overtime; may require weekend or evening work.
  • Emotional/Psychological: Occasional emergency situations; occasional exposure to trauma, grief, and death; frequent public contact and decision making; frequent concentration required.
  • Environmental: Occasional exposure to noise; may be exposed to varied weather conditions.

  • 125 Flexible Benefits Plan: Voluntary program allowing pre-tax dollars for health-related expenses (Health Flexible Spending Account: $2,550 annual limit with $500 carryover) and dependent care costs (Dependent Care Assistance Plan: $5,000 annual limit).

  • Deferred Compensation: Annual contribution limit of $22,500 (or 100% of includible compensation, whichever is less). Individuals age 50+ may contribute up to $30,000. Roth IRA (after-tax) also available.
  • Vacation: 10 days per year up to 3 years; 15 days after 3 years; 20 days after 10 years; 23 days after 20 years.
  • Holidays: 14 paid holidays per year.
  • Sick Leave: 12 working days annually with unlimited accumulation. Eligible for 8 hours of administrative leave if leave balance is at least half of cumulative accrual and employee is on payroll for the entire calendar year.
  • Bereavement Leave: 3 days of paid leave for qualifying family members; 2 additional days for death of spouse, domestic partner, parent, or child.
  • Merit Salary Increase: Eligible for step increase after 52 weeks (2,080 hours) at each step.
  • Educational Reimbursement: Up to $850 per fiscal year for career-related coursework; up to $1,600 per fiscal year for approved 4-year college/university programs.
  • Parking: County contributes up to $20 per pay period for employees assigned to the Downtown Core Area who pay for parking.
  • School Activities: Up to 40 hours per year (max 8 hours per month) to participate in children’s school activities.
