Occupational Therapist (OT)

About the role

The Occupational Therapist treats neuromuscular and developmental dysfunction caused by disease, trauma, congenital anomaly, or prior therapeutic process through specific tasks or goal-directed activities designed to improve functional performance of the patient.

Responsibilities

• Obtain sufficient information to function effectively and determine priority needs for occupational therapy by assessing and evaluating therapeutic, rehabilitative, and functional status.
• Evaluate the home environment and assess the need for adaptive equipment to improve function.
• Participate in the development of the total plan of care and direct the occupational therapy treatment plan.
• Regularly re-evaluate patient progress and revise the plan of care as necessary.
• Initiate the occupational therapy program and instruct personnel, family, or caregivers in phases of patient care and goals.
• Instruct patients, clients, and family/caregivers in the use and care of therapeutic appliances and/or prosthetic devices.
• Maintain communication regarding patient status with supervisory personnel and collaborate with physicians and team members.
• Complete and maintain accurate clinical notes regarding patient evaluation and goal attainment.
• Observe patients for reactions to treatment or changes in condition and report as necessary.
• Assist caregivers, families, and other healthcare personnel in providing continuity of care.
• Adhere to MGA policies, procedures, and handbook, including timely submission of clinical documentation.
• Represent the company professionally in appearance and conduct.
• Participate in mandated activities such as in-services as requested.

Requirements

• A Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited University.
• Successful completion of an internship under the direction of an Occupational Therapist.
• Passed the entry-level certification exam as validated by NBCOT/AOTCB/AOTA.
• State registration and appropriate professional experience as required by state regulations.
• Good observation skills, judgment, and strong oral and written communication skills.
• Reliable transportation and current CPR certification per state regulations.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to regularly sit, stand, stop, bend, kneel, walk, balance, crouch, crawl, push, pull, and reach with hands and arms.
• Vision and hearing capabilities within normal limits, with or without aid.
• Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift or move 100 pounds or more, if applicable.
• Ability to perform the anticipated level of physical assist required to provide safe client care.

Work Environment

• Care is generally provided in private homes with variable lighting, acoustics, air quality, temperature, and environmental hazards.
• Occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, household pets/animals, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
• Frequent travel required to complete home health visits.
