About the role

The McCarton Foundation is seeking an Occupational Therapist to provide services to children with developmental disabilities aged 2–3 years. The role reports to the Occupational Therapy Supervisor and involves designing and implementing individualized treatment programs, supervising paraprofessional staff, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Direct Care: Provide individualized occupational therapy treatment to children aged 2–3 with developmental disabilities.
  • Assessment and Planning: Review physician referrals and medical records; design and implement treatment programs; document goals and progress.
  • Evaluation: Monitor and evaluate treatment effectiveness, adjusting interventions to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with Speech, ABA, and Physical Therapists to deliver integrated, child-centered programming.
  • IFSP Development: Participate in developing, implementing, and monitoring Individualized Family Service Plans.
  • Paraprofessional Guidance & Training: Mentor, supervise, and support paraprofessional staff in implementing therapeutic activities, modeling best practices, and maintaining high-quality care.

Requirements

  • Licenses: NYS Occupational Therapist Licensure required.
  • Education: Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution.
  • Experience: Minimum 1 years of combined experience working with children, which may include:
    • Direct experience in pediatric occupational therapy OR
    • Related experience in early childhood education, special education, speech/physical therapy, or other child development disciplines.
  • Prior experience guiding, teaching, or mentoring paraprofessional staff is strongly preferred.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge: Advanced OT principles; pediatric evidence-based practices; Early Intervention and IFSP/IEP regulations; child health and safety procedures, including CPR, first aid, and emergency response protocols.
  • Skills: Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills with children, families, and interdisciplinary teams. Ability to design, evaluate, and adapt treatment plans. Leadership and mentoring of paraprofessional staff. Proficiency in data collection, documentation, and electronic health record.

Skills

  • Languages: Fluency in English is essential. Working knowledge of Spanish is an asset.
